Good idea, I signed in, but I remember some previous effort on 8bc wiki and some map also.

Yeah, the 8bc wiki was LowGain and myself (mostly), he took care of the USA and I done the Rest of the World list; but 8bc has since shut down and taken the list with it, and the map isn't really information rich, and some of the information is incorrect. For instance, it says Beats of Rage (a Scottish band) are from Germany.

For Belgium, could I add Vegas Diamond? He's on lowtoy and chipwin christmass.
Belgium, Antwerp, Antwerp, https://www.facebook.com/vgsdmnd.

Also, me, not that I belong anywhere near the first hundreth. It's just that I'm the most internet-active.

Done!

Thanks for the heads up, I'm trying to use a lot of these kind of databases as a starting point for information gathering. I think all of them have their strengths, but together we can make something more useful.

Don't get me wrong though, thanks for the suggestion and for adding yourself! I'm totally open to all suggestions of how to improve this.

added. 'tis a fun idea.

maybe add a column for people's real name and one for email? for contact purposes?

People might not want that information out in the public domain (I know of at least one that wouldn't want his real name out there), and e-mail would be too easy to abuse. Do you want 100 'My First LSDJ' kids right-click copying the list then e-mailing you every time they release a new song? Didn't think so.

Most Facebook/Soundcloud/Bandcamp/website pages have e-mail addresses on them anyway, this just makes it a bit harder to spam.

maybe? i do have both of those as well
oh, maybe youtube and vimeo for the vj's (and maybe change it to VJs/Visualists)?

Good call on the VJs/Visualists page, added.

I've put an hour or so into getting the list started, adding lots of Scottish/English artists. Keep adding!

Quick bit of feedback needed. Separate headings for Soundcloud/Bandcamp links? Yay or nay?

EDIT: I decided to add it, no harm in having lots of links (in case someone wants to subscribe to every chiptuner on Soundcloud).

9-Heart, but on that there are no links to music or ways to get in touch with those people (that I have found, please correct me if I'm wrong), it's just artist names and locations.

Also, I wouldn't call it easy to browse (in my own opinion, of course). So I think for the moment I'll press on with the database. Thanks for the heads up though!

Add yourself and others to the database via this form:

Hello. I don't know if you remember this, but back in 2008 on 8bc, LowGain and myself managed the Chiptune World Map, a list of contact details/area information for chiptune musicians. On quite a few topics, I've found people asking what artists are in their area, so I thought it might be a good idea to restart this.

If you would like to add yourself and other local musicians to this Google Document, then maybe it'll be easier to find each other in the future.  Alternatively, you could comment with the necessary details below and I'll add you at the earliest convenience.

Feedback welcome! I'm open to making this as user-friendly as possible!

Note: I've left e-mail addresses off this on purposes to prevent mass spamming.

Special thanks to: Josh from 8bitpeoples and everyone else who contributed to this thread

I'm (nearly) positive that CDK is just trolling.

This is the best one to get. Same control layout as the Game Boy, and it has great reviews (I own one, and agree that it's amazing for the price).

Recently, I haven't been able find Home Movies when I search. What's up with that?

The US/UK catalogues are not the same, and since you're in the UK right now, you're seeing the UK Netflix (where it isn't available). You can access the US version using a VPN with your usual login if you want to watch Home Movies.

It's better that he won't make a new album, because Death Cab have really been sucking lately. You Are A Tourist was a slap in the face of their back catalogue.

I've just always wanted my music to get into the hands of creative people. Putting it out there for free has really helped it to go places I couldn't have imagined reaching.

Highlights for me so far include: an upcoming Occupy Wall Street documentary, a viral video called Graphic Violence with 3 million views, a credit on the New York Times website, credit for an online video by PBS, some play time on WFMU, some video games on XBox Live, iOS, Android, etc. I'm really grateful that anyone cares at all.

so what is bandcamp supposed to do with this information

This was my thought too. You're encouraging Bandcamp to tell people to sell things in a way (free/cheap at live shows) that cuts out their 15% share, so I can't see them endorsing it in a blog.

I think you could argue that for bands that have studio fees and make a living selling their music, the album is an extremely cost effective format. Releasing 3 EPs over 1 album means paying for CDs to be printed 3 times (unless you do a collection CD I suppose, but that's another debate).

I've never incurred studio fees, but I don't make a living from music (it's just a hobby), so I'm unlikely to ever really commit to releasing an album of my own. I'd be much more likely to stick a few filler tracks on there, and I just don't like wasting a listener's time, especially when they could be listening to The Mars Volta or some other awesome band.
