Hey, I'm SolarLune! I use Sunvox for my music, and the creator of the program's having a competition over at the official forums. Check it out if you're interested!

Hello. You don't know me, but 8bc is no more. It's kind of been replaced by ucollective.

Not bad. I think you could vary the chords and lead up more, as they repeat fairly quickly. Perhaps use that back "stuttering' synth to give some feeling of chords, or just a general mood.

Oh, hey, I like the beat that comes in. More funky than I was expecting from a more authentic-sounding chiptune. I think it could use to bring in some chord elements (arpeggios, or just block chords in the background), but it's pretty good. I think you could spread out the lead / back-up / ambient "high background" synth; they all seem to focus in around 1 or 2 octaves. Pushing them around could be nice. Overall, this is really quite good for your first track. Nice work!

It sounds pretty good, but I think it could use some finesse in a way. It's kinda rough around the edges. I think I hear some brass or bells in there that could be used to accentuate the feeling and give a kind of "epic" feel; maybe push those up in volume (push everything else down). Perhaps a stronger, more audible beat would help as well. It also seems to lack a strong lead that pounds home the "you're on a journey, it's kind of mysterious" feeling that the rest of the song gives.

A MASSIVE archive of XI instruments from an old archive that went down.

Hey. The Amiga ST Sample Pack is a cool pack of samples, and I like the way they sound a lot. The problem is that they're all mixed together. You have synths with drums and stuff - it's all over the place.

It would be really great if it were sorted by type (e.g. Synth, Percussion, String, Woodwind, Sample, Piano, Bass, Guitar, etc). Looking at the pack now, it's really, REALLY large (over 100 folders), and so I don't think I could do it quickly under my own time. However, I'm up for sorting through some of it myself.

Would anyone like to help me sort it out?

Update 6/19/12 - Finished ST-01, partway through ST-02.

Current folders:

Accompaniment
Bass
Brass
Pad
Percussion (Xylophone type stuff) - Sub-folders: Bass Drum, Clap, Conga, Claves, Hi-hat, Snare, Tom
Piano
Plucked (Guitar, koto, stuff like that)
Sample (Voice samples, sound effects)
Synth (Lead-style synths that don't fit in elsewhere)
Woodwind

Ah, that was Amiga, not Atari. My mistake. Well, I guess I could start on it...

EDIT: This'll probably take forever if I'm working by myself... Maybe different people could take a folder and sort it?

EDIT 2: Let me make a thread to see what people think.

I wonder if anyone has a sorted version of the Atari ST tracker samples? They sound pretty great, but looking for specific sounds (like a kick drum) can be really tough since everything's just in random folders... I can do it myself, but if someone's already started, then maybe I won't have to do it.

Hello. I was wondering if it was possible / if anyone was interested in implementing an "Allow Downloads" option to the music uploader. Right now, every track is downloadable, which is great, but that keeps you from showing things that you want to sell, since people could just get it here for free. neutral

I don't know, just wanted to get people's thoughts.

I play S4 League a lot (yeah, I know it's kinda junky, but it's still pretty unique). Tribes is fun, though difficult as all get out. You almost have to use trigonometry to hit anything! big_smile

Also, Super Bat Puncher was awesome. I hope they finish it. smile

I also play my own projects a lot, but since they're not finished, I guess that doesn't count. neutral

I'm also a fan of SunVox, though you've already found a good tracker, so that's fine. I couldn't really get into Milkytracker. I think it was the old feel that kind of pushed me away.

Good question. As far as I'm aware, the hornet archive samples were used for a few compilations which were sold- that doesn't mean too much, because back then nobody was so anal about sample snatching (not even the RIAA). Seeing that most are instrument samples, I'd say they're ok.

If you think a sample is fishy, it probably is. tongue

Thanks for the link. Some of these samples are really high-quality, which is great.

@komanderkin - Thanks for the drum samples, too.

@Cartoon Bomb - Chrono Trigger samples. AWESOME. EDIT: You've got a trumpet labeled as "Guitar" in there. smile

This page is really helpful, thanks a lot! Are all of these samples free for commercial use? Particularly the samples on the Hornet Archive?
