If you're releasing streaming files (which 99% of the chip scene are) you might as well master them. There's hardly anybody doing music disks outside the demo scene.

And sadly, few people in the chipmusic scene care about demoscene prods.

On topic, raw recordings generally get bonus points in my book, but there's nothing wrong with mastering, if it's done right. Multitrack mixing on the other hand... I dunno. It might sound great, but if you can't actually play it live then what's the point.

Some outstanding tracks on this, and overall a great compilation. Having followed Chippanze from the beginning, I'm really amazed by how much your styles have evolved smile

Houston Tracker 0.3 is ready.

New stuff in this version:
- New load/save system with multiple save slots. No internal compression yet, though.
- A new drum sound
- A feature to mute channels seperatly. Affects only single row play mode, but also works for copy/paste.
- "Light" versions which take up half the memory, but at the cost of a reduced maximum song length. Well, 1000 rows should still be enough to make some decent music.
- Various internal optimizations.

That should win you at least 10 TCTD Awards.

Glad to see some chipstuff going on in Dresden. But damn, you should announce these things earlier. Anyway, good luck for tonight's show!

8bitBar is a relaxed hangout for chip people, with all sorts of 8bit related stuff going on.
There's an open line, so bring your gear if you want to show off your latest works.
Hope to see you there wink

I guess it has to do with marketing, and catering to the largest possible audience. Don't think it matters much to the people who are mainly in it for the love of music. Also Cooshinator is probably right, people who started out in chiptune are usually not the ones calling totally unrelated stuff chiptune. It's more the ones who never really got into it in the first place.

And last but not least, there is no clear definition of what Chiptune actually is, and most likely there never will be. Most of Berlin style minimal electro could be called chiptune, soundwise. I'd sooner argue about it deserving the term "music", hehe.

A nice project indeed. However, commercial sale of Swinsids is disallowed by the designer, despite some webshops selling them anyway. So you should definately get in touch with him if you intend to sell any larger quantities of these boards.

one more thing: support the scene's software developers by testing new releases and submitting bug reports.

Hmm, that getting blurry issue shouldn't happen, actually. Well. I'd say just run the bugger in fullscreen mode. Also, make sure you have "Low-res double size" ticked in Options/Display.

just the pause button (the one on your keyboard btw).

Btw you're on Linux, right? Better stay away from the Steven Seagal edition, then. It's totally buggy. Also, great to see getting into Atari stuff.

Sounds like a really interesting idea. Will definately be trying it out once they add international payments and/or paypal. The only thing I'm wondering about is: Will there be any significant amount of patrons who actually support small-scale artists like the most of us? Having to become a registered patron isn't exactly as much of a low-level approach as one-click donating a few bucks on bandcamp.

@rainwarrior as far as I understand, you still get to evaluate content before paying, since payments are done once a month, and you can always retract your pledge if you don't like the content.
