Seems pretty cool for Chipsounds.  Can you control different parameters within the plug-in as you would on the computer, or is it limited to a few?

Don't give up on this DSC.  This is a great idea you had.  I know you worked really hard on this, and I know it probably frustrated you to hear such harsh criticism about something you made and worked really hard on.  But, the fact remains that you have a great start, and you should take what you heard here and roll with it.  Get some of these guys involved with making something that is unique and innovative.  Make a Kickstarter.  The Ninstrument could be one of the pioneer bridges from chipmusic into popular music.  I have lots of audio engineer friends who wouldn't consider using game boys because they see them as low-fi obsolete toys, but when I played them some music I wrote, they liked it.  Every time.  If they could get a piece of gear available to them that would appeal to their "everything needs to be professional/big boy" tastes and cut down on the clutter, they might try it.  I think the sounds these things produce interest and appeal to a lot of people, but the methods scare them.  To have something like this, boxed up and ready to plug n' play, may convince them to try it.  At the same time, I don't mind the methods scaring off some of the less hardcore people who might try to turn this style into overly-simplified ultra-marketable radio crap  tongue  I like this community how it is big_smile  However, it deserves to expand.  At the very least, this could innovate things for us chip musicians and producers, assuming you collaborate and create something from what you heard here.  Keep it up, DSC!

Honestly I think this is sad. 2 hacked gameboys in a 2u fullspace rack is kind of a insult. You would be better off using a FPGA and doing your own device, not to mention Nintendo licensing. You though of that right?

Sorry but I think you are doing it wrong. Any real professional musician as you would put it, (like myself) would rather use a plugin with a laptop than bother with a few hacked up gameboys running mgb.

Innovate not emulate.

This is a bit disappointing, but he does make sense.
What would you suggest?  Is there some way this project can be salvaged and still win your approval?

looks beautiful! really very impressed, like Nitro said i think you could get away with one arduino per unit, maybe that helps with the cost?

also i was planning to build something similar to this, but i never got around to it (its a long term project) but i have loads of ideas that would only work for something like this, things like hot swapable carts, single controls for multiple gameboys, single screen for multiple gameboys with backlight colour indicating which gameboy you are controlling, trackerball interface, etc, as well as loads of sync effects, because you can effectively have two gameboys permanently synced

Leave it to Nex to take ideas to a level we never knew was possible.  This all sounds amazing!

This looks so cool!  I can say now I'd be interested.  Would it be possible to have at least one front input for quick plug n' play?  If so, would it be able to be switchable between which it controls?  Also, does the panic button just cut the sound?  I've never used mGB before, but am familiar with it.

I noticed there are 2 different colored cases.  Will there be a color option when they're available for sale or will there be a specific case designed for these cartridges?

Why did they have to choose the shortest month? tongue

I can see why they asked you to do it.  You do some fine looking work!

Lol, sorry.  Jeez. tongue

Post processing chipmusic

Fucking poseurs.

I feel kind of like paraphrasing the Simpsons here.  Why did you come here just to boo us?  A lot of people do this.  Effects and EQ can be used to add a cool edge to your music or even just to clean it up.  I understand some people are purists and want their music to sound super lo fi.  I get that, but, to me, it sounds a bit thin.  I'm a fan of using what tools I have and combining them to create a cool sounding final product.  I don't think that, when creating chip music, you have to incorporate only vintage gaming gear.  If you do, that's cool.  I guess this just isn't the thread for you.

I have a non-chip song ready, and I would like if someone else could mix it, mostly to see if I'm doing a good job. I don't know if i'm gonna release it.
The song is kinda hiphop/glitch hop. I can let you hear my mix and if you like the song maybe you could give it a try. (I would provide you with dry tracks) If you're looking just for chip... well forget this smile.

My original thought was chip related music, but I suppose I could give it a listen.  Send me a message or something and we'll figure something out. smile

I'm having trouble mixing one of my tracks (I assume this is for chipmusic, yeah?), I'll get back to you in a day or so!

Yessir!  If you want, let me see what you've got and tell me what you're trying to accomplish, and I'll see what I can do for ya!

Any updates?

I'm an audio engineer certified up to Pro Tools 9 and am looking for a song to mix to keep up my chops.  I'm offering to mix a song for someone at no charge under the following conditions.

1) If the song is released, you give me credit for mixing it.
2) You are able to get me individual recorded tracks, not a whole song file.  So lead, bass, kick, etc.  I realize that due to having limited channels, many of you probably share channels for multiple instruments.  Not a problem.  I just want all the channels separately then.
3) If you like it, spread the word!

I probably won't do too many as I've got other things going on, so I'm probably not going to mix a whole album for free.  Emphasis on the word free.  If you want to pay me, I'll make time smile  I'd prefer to mix for somebody not yet established as a musician and trying to make a name for themselves in the chip community.  I'll choose which one I'll do based on my interest in the track.  Just a disclaimer:  I have no intention of stealing or releasing anyone's music as my own (if you were worried about that).  I am perfectly capable of making my own tunes, I just have more motivation to do some mixing than to write at the moment.  Send me a message if you're interested!

Don't get me wrong, it's a great idea.  I didn't mean to be a buzzkill.  You may not be the first one ever to  put SNES buttons into a gameboy, but you'd be the first I know of to offer them for sale all ready to use.  I think you should go for it.
