oh god, I'm so glad CRTs aren't used (much) anymore for pretty much that exact reason

Regarding the speaker, I'm not sure if this is an option for you, but I've disconnected the speaker on all of my gameboys after prosounding them, since I never used them without headphones. Of course, if you want to keep your DMG fairly intact, this probably sounds like heresy.

There's probably a more elaborate option, using a system/mechanism similar to the headphone jack, opening the speaker circuit (I think?) when something is plugged in, but I thought it was too much work for something I wouldn't end up using.

Finally getting a chance to play with this. It's a little temperamental and weird, but it sounds really great—nice blurry/squelchy sound, good for wooden/rubbery stuff. It's pushing me to get a bit less melodic and more tribal, which is great because I've been getting into making stuff that is more based around interesting beat structures etc!

My new cosmic synth-prog-metal album is done! It took around a year to put together, but there is material here that has been waiting many years to be developed into full tracks. It turned out a *lot* less chippy than I originally intended, but most of the synth work and drums were created in Renoise.

Track list:
Hydrogenesis 4:25
Collapse 7:42
Precursors I 6:51
The Fifth Day (ft. Tim Carruthers) 8:13
New Endings 6:09
Ultramarine 9:11
i. Hero
ii. Build II
iii. Proving Grounds
Infinity Engine 14:24
i. Generator
ii. Infinity Fusion
iii. Silent Sorrow In Interdimensional Vessels
iv. Metal Juggernaut (ft. Tuberz McGee)
Precursors II 4:13

title says it all tbh

No, don't solder the cart! You can solder directly to where the cartridge slot connects to the board on the DMG.

Have you tried doing the direct out mod, where you connect an audio output directly to (I think) pin 31 on the cart connector? I did this and the output is super loud with a very clean signal.

Try A+B+down rather than just B+down. I can't try it on mono now, but it works in nl one and two.

I've barely had time to get into this sad
Too much work to be done on my new prog album, but hopefully I can finish that all off soon, and then get to work on some 0F.analog sound sculptures big_smile

Great video! I'm interested in the future video on exotic file formats, would be a great insight.

By the way, I wonder if there's any way to implement a reverse mode for the delay/stutter? So there are the same amount of repeats but they start quiet and end loud? Would be really nice for rolls!

thanks oliver! good to see you getting some press coverage as well.

I did the direct out mod by connecting pin 31 of the cart connector and one of the ground points to a 3.5mm mono output (probably chose the wrong one as my screen now has a slight burn mark in it, oops). The sound is so much cleaner and louder! I think the only noticeable noise was from my mixer. Here's a test:

I really love the sound of this, it's got a bit of nl2 character, a bit of something resembling a 303, and a bit of that early gritty Aphex Twin sound of feeding drums through the MS20 filter.. I also love how it overdrives in a similar way to nl2 big_smile
