Admittedly they were mostly covers but yep, there were chipmusic releases in 1983.  People were swapping their Master Composer tracks for a start on c64.   As an aside, a lot of active chipmusicians have no idea of/interest in this "scene" so I'm sure they'll keep plugging away.

From Evoke 2013, music by Strobe.  They even made some carts!   PAL only I think but works almost 100% in Kega.

yep that's him, all those tracks are on here too.

Yeah probably.   I mean there's nowhere else they can shift the sprites to apart from another screen, and that'd involve a bunch more coding Hermit probably wouldn't want to do.   Just run it on Vice and play the tracks on your c64 later, with resid-FP it really isn't going to sound that different. (especially if you're using an 8580)

The Paula chip is basically a DAC reading samples from memory which isn't included on the chip, so it's not possible to be standalone.  All the AHX/MusicLine/Future Composer sounds you're hearing are samples generated by software.  As it's just a DAC you might as well do everything in software and output directly.   It's nothing like a SID chip.

I like it.  What player do you recommend?  (I was using Cubic)

I've got tones coming out of it under assembler but not looked at a driver yet.
