only being there for one night this past blip kind of turned it into a blur. i did the most ass backwards thing a person could possibly try to do and basically did my best not to enjoy or experience the festival, because i didn't want to feel disappointed that i was only able to get a tiny taste of it. so i treated it like i do every show i play here, strictly drunken business. i played my set and then spent the rest of the time at the merch table or back stage talking to other artists i'd known for years and had never had the chance to meet. well, except for when bit shifter played, because fuck that, i had never seen josh live. oh, and graffiti monsters cuz bros for life.

i still had a great time but i really have no true "blip fest memories". which depresses me now that it's gone (for now). i was actually already making arrangements to tie in a visit to my dad in philadelphia next year with making a quick jump to NYC for Blip '13. so, guess i'll just have to do a show up there or something.

Considering that this is essentially a compilations of the awesome covers you've done (with a couple originals), it is missing some quite notable tracks, such as
Requiem For a DMG
PHANTOM!
That Heaven Scent-ish Remix you played live that one time
PERSONAL JESUS!
And probably some others I'm forgetting

Goddamn you play the best music ever.

I expected nothing but the best.
You delivered.
Thank you for still being in my top 5.

To be fair though, i've heard most of these live many times haha

release the pappyland ep.

Also, no matter where I live, still seems I'm the only person in LA who is regularly booking straight up chip shows!
Next one is August 31st in Pasadena!

La Habra is still 562 dawg.
I'm like, 9 miles from where I used to live (Norwalk)
Right on the border of LA County and Orange County

LA is pretty sketchy

No, it's really not, if you use common sense.

In my experience here, you generally have to go looking for trouble. Most of the crime is related to the drug and gang scene. You stay away from that shit, you'll be fine. If you're walking around at night, walk with multiple people. You should do this anywhere though. If you don't know where you are, stick to the main streets and stay out of the neighborhoods. Obviously wandering around a primarily industrial area at night is fucking stupid. The LA that is portrayed in 80s / 90s movies and gangsta rap has calmed the fuck down a lot. And even then, those things reference only certain areas. What the fuck reason would you ever have to go to Compton? It's a bunch of strip malls and houses. Yes, it's fairly dangerous, but there is NOTHING THERE.

As a kid growing up in Anchorage, Alaska, I always thought that place was way more dangerous...lots of drugs and people who think they're tough, most of them have guns, and Alaska is definitely a place where people can easily disappear...I have a lot of friends up there from my childhood who are now either in jail or dead, yet you never hear about Anchorage being even slightly dangerous...

VENUE RANT:
Most likely due to my background in playing at very small art spaces and warehouse parties, I have a general hatred towards mainstream venues. Not because I'm so cool and underground, but because they usually seem to have this fucking attitude (see above song) that it is a privilege for the artists to be able to play at their fine establishment...the situation SHOULD be like this - you, the venue, are working for us, the artists, not the other way around. Only one "big" venue I've played at has gotten this right, and this is the DNA Lounge in San Francisco. Nicest sound crew, the fucking venue owner came up to me on stage and asked how I was doing during soundcheck, if I wanted a red bull or anything...THAT IS HOW IT SHOULD BE. We are making the venue the money and bringing people in, they should, at the very least, be fucking respectful and polite.

Now obviously a bigger space is a necessary evil for an event as huge as Blip, so it's something you just have to roll with. I did mentally come close to spitting in some security person's face backstage for telling me that my wristband wasn't good enough to get me in the back, nevermind I was a fucking performer and I was trying to get to my gear...she literally argued with me for a minute before letting me back there. Idiots.

Other than that, great great great experience. I had a blast.
