pew pew pew!!!

the dog does or doesn't bounce too much

I was on the BIG ISLAND a couple times in 2009 to visit my aunt and uncle.  There was this awesome robot cafe in Hilo that had every toy robot I could remember the first time.  I played Wii with the staff for my first time ever.  They were out of business when I went back though.  sad

Commodore demo scene does the image blitting thing too in order to create a larger palette.  I don't know why they went for 3 frames instead of 2 in that blog article.  Proof of concept I suppose.  They flicker in emulators; I had assumed the CRTs could handle it though. . .

This thread was about people who quit the genre but continue to play the shows.  Regardless of software vs hardware, everyone has a line that gets crossed about what chipchoon is in their heart and ears.  If someone has "moved on" the only person you could get mad at is the shows organizer.  But if the show is a success with a decent, fun turnout, then you're just being a dick.  Don't rain on parades, dick.  People decide to "move on" because they see the scene as an amorphous finite blob.  While this scene is capable of giving you friends you can endlessly talk shop with, and it can help you organize a tour (like the old old punk scene), you won't find an audience outside the scene without playing non-chipchoon shows.

I also would like some kind of hardware compressor in my rig instead of software on my NSF's (plus the other stuff).

I'll just say I've faced enough cognitive dissonance already to accept chipchoons for what they are.  No, not all chipchoons are techno but you'll find that, compositionally speaking, that pop/dance/rock music inherently shares similar symmetrical rhythms and melodic/harmonic pacing.  Once the actual song writing is obscured by the medium's presentation the source genre is lost.  So no, not all chipchoons are techno.  There is metal, classical, bluegrass and everything in between chipchoons.  I speak from my experience going to and playing chipchoon shows for a long time.  Most acts sound like techno to me.

ilkae, thanks for the link!  I like to emulate my .nsf files in winamp for my shows.  tongue

I still advocate that 'chip music' is music played back from an audio chip and 'chipchoon' is a bunch of goofy fools who like underproduced techno.

Wow, I haven't logged in here for over a year and this is the thread I fell upon.

The word 'chiptune' has become a joke to me.  I like to say 'chipchoon'.

I will always be playing the Commodore VIC-20 during my sets regardless if I'm doing chipmusic, chipchoon, EDM, IDM, bitpop, pop, jizz, assjuke, truchip or fakebit until the last VIC-20 dies and ebay refuses to cough up another one.  That being said, I've learned to quit being uptight about the chipchoon label because the bottom line is getting people out to shows if you're a performer and the scene doesn't seem to give a shit (like any scene) so long as the bar is selling drinks and asks you back.  Denouncing chipchoon is the same as saying "I'm all chipchoon" is the same as MC Chris denouncing nerdcore.   Fuck off.

Looks like the company I was recently hired into is taking me to the festival for the interactive portion.  It would be fun to at least do a meetup of chuptawners!  Chup chup chup!

...the Datapop sounds like the kind of shit we have to deal with at the bar I work at (I have 2 jobs) when there are dubstep shows.  :X
