Re: how to make your songs musically interesting (97 replies, posted in General Discussion)
For me it's just more challenging to take the hardware most people take + not let it sound like everyone else.
Although it's just a coincidence SFZ is mainly using Game Boys. Could might as well be something else.
To add to this, I think one of the Anamanaguchi guys said they sang stupid nonsensical lyrics to come up with their melodies - I think it makes sense to think of your main melody as a "vocal line" if you will, and when you listen to songs with lyrics it's not someone 'go[ing] on forever, snaking every which way, with no pause'.
Kinda reminds me of myself thinking of how I play the piano... Gets me the best melodies + solos + I just have to "write" them down, as they are in my head already. I know, not the same... Just sayin.

Re: Is DJTransformer a reliable seller? (56 replies, posted in General Discussion)
Oh yeah! It's this thread again.
So here's my tip for you:
Don't. Buy. There.
DIY or contact a reliable person!
I really have no idea why this guy is still trying.
A while back I ordered some stuff from DJ Transformer.
If I remember correctly, it was an LSDJMC², a DMG with the usual mods + some other stuff. It was also for a very good price at that time.
Which quickly lead me to the assumption, that this guy is just pulling people over the barrel.
+ I think back on the 8bc forums he even admitted doing so (at least he admitted quite some mistakes). Then he would just randomly invent apologies for why he failed doing this + that, publicly offering solutions for any problems.
By the time he did that, two years have passed since I ordered my stuff. + I got nothing. I repeat: NOTHING.
But that was fine, since he's gotten the money.
I even tried to get the money back via PayPal, because they agreed with me. + they would've transferred it back to me, if his account wouldn't have been empty soon after I transferred him the necessary amount.
So eventually, after two years he sent me the stuff, in order to appear like having a clean slate. You know, because of his newly discovered "Oh look, I found Jesus"-image on the 8bc forums.
One day after it's arrival, the backlight of the DMG broke.
+ It was just an old very used looking classic DMG that obviously had been tinkered together in a hurry.

Re: Is chipmusic a genre or a medium? (55 replies, posted in General Discussion)
Faerlight, people might post irritated replies because in this community, this is an old debate that comes up often.
That being said, I think it is a medium, but a medium with such severe stylistic ticks and limitations that it confuses people. If you can pick up a game boy and make a funk tune, a dance track, a bossa nova piece, and something with a European folk dance flavor, then that's a medium.
What confuses people is that due to hardware limitations, composer often resort to stylistic tricks like arps or bass and drum on the same channel. These things, coupled with the distinct sound of raw waveforms and noise percussion, lead people to apply the genre tag.
My theory, anyway.
My game boy music is not in the same genre as Danimal Cannon or Monodeer, etc. Medium, I say!
I was just waiting for someone to provide a well formulated definition... again..., so I wouldn't have to + could just write "this" below it.
I'm a lazy person.
So:
"This."
Oh, + props Roboctopus.

You can't seriously be compairing breakcore to twelve-tone music.
That would mean I'm a musical genius.
