Yea hes actually a pretty cool guy. To be honest his site is the very first website I ever found when I searches for modded gameboys and custom gameboy buttons. He's also the only person I've ever been able to find that has a constant stock of 64mb and 32mb cartridges. Only issue is he travels a lot and is gone a lot so if you order from him it may take a bit to get to you. It's good to email him and make sure hes in town before buying from him. I've always gotten lucky and hes been there. He was for a long time the only person I bought from and delt with. Then I discovered Modolith and and Kitsch and Nonfinite. Nothing negative to say about dj transformer at all just he likes to travel so it makes it hard to deal with him. But you can't be mad that the guy has a life outside of gameboys lol. And his work is always good. And as I'm sure everyone that mods will tell you, you pay for quality. Plus as Justin pointed out, blues are a bit rare so price is about right conscidering that and parts and time.

Lol it wasn't intentional it was a mess up dye job I did one sy when I first woke up and I was so tired I forgot to stir the dye. It looks weird in this picture because of the flash. In actuallity it's pretty badass. I'm turning it into a Fallout style gameboy. The buttons actually glow blue which makes it look even cooler.

I think it looks awesome! I would leave it the way it is and match the Gameboy lettering to the blue button lights. Then I would put a big nintendo decal (same color as lettering) across the front tilted to make it look like a sticker that was just slapped on. That would be one tough looking DMG.

and the mystery machine is sweet! big_smile

Haha thank man! Yea I love the way turned out actually. I posted pics of it lit up as stuff on the handhelds section. The plans I have for it ate actually kind of exciting and will be awesome if I can pull it off. I'm planning on actually cutting into the case with a Dremel and then melting other plastics into it front the inside so it'll look like its melting from the inside out. I'm thinking an orange backlight and then possibly painting a biohazard symbol on the back.

Btw I only posted that gameboy on here because I'm working on a Domo doll gameboy and it was the only gameboy I had at the time that wasn't taken apart. Using a grey boy then using the fabric you see in the picture and putting it on it as making it a domo doll with bendable arms that can actually be played! Red backlight and I'm debating on button colors right now. I want brown by they are a bitch to find so I might go with black but they are also a bitch to find and kitsch is sold out ATM. Soni might be stuck with red or white buttons for now.

Also the mystery machine gameboy is being painted fr a customer and then getting shipped to a buddy of mine to be pimped out with some badass mods. Orange backlight green power LEDs and a bunch of other stuff. I can't wait til it's all finished its going to be very badass it's it completion.

I think brown wasn't really the best choice to go with blue.

I might hit you up for a backlight at some point. I have a clear led less and I don't trust my self to mess with it. If I destroy it it would kill me cause original power led less pocket boards are a rare find atleast for me anyway. I've read somewhere try only made them for the first month the pocket was made not sure if it's true or not but I've only found two in all the time I've been collecting personally. How much would it be for a backlight if I provide you the pocket.. And i insist on it being a VB series light from either Apeshit or Kitsch?

That's an awesome way to look at it! I do think that revamping this technology is a huge homage to the original hardware. And that's a really nice story with your grandma smile

Thanks man it's just an opinion though. As for the grandmother story it actually is even cooler. The day I found the pocket was actually the 5th year anniversary of her passing to the day. But I didn't add that because it's kind of cheesy but it was. That gameboy will never be sold never be modded and will never have another game put in it besides Mario Six Golden Coins in my lifetime. I play it every few weeks. I miss my granny. T_T lol

Why is everyone modding gameboys?

LED technology wasn't where it's at now in 1989. It's sensible to upgrade hardware.

And they will never be produced again. You all drive original gameboys to extinction. sad

Units sold Worldwide: 118.69 million

There won't be a shortage of gameboys in our lifetime.

I actually had the same mindset as you Amity when I first got into the chip scene then I realized how many had been made and sold. But still as a respective fan of the product and the fact that ONE DAY they may be all broken or destroyed or modded, I keep one grey DMG untouched one Silver Pocket untouched one lime green Color untouched one purple Advance untouched, and if I ever get my hands on some Lites I will leave one of them untouched. The silver pocket led less was the very first gameboy, actually game system at all that was actually bought for and given to me rather than a hand me down,  with Mario 6 golden coins, I broke it 5 years later after dropping it so many times and it got trashed. My grandmother that bought it for me died about 6 years ago and I wanted my gameboy back because some of my best memories with her where involved with my gameboy. I looked for one for years and finally found one about a year ago and bought it instantly and put six golden coins back into it and it now sits on my display shelf in memory of her. And now by coincidence my hobby is modding and painting gameboys and the occasional lsdj song here and there. Sorry for te long cheesy story. Back to the concern at hand there are collectors out there that are keeping them untouched, but you also have to look at what this community has done, we have brought systems back into the eyes of the public that had been long forgotten. Amiga systems, Nes, snes, and so so on are be sold, bought, traded everyday to be USED and not just collected and sat on a shelf. I think using the product rather it sitting on a shelf is the highest respect you can give it. And showing off what 20-30 year old game systems can do now by modding them is even more respect. Imagine what the creator of the Gameboy thinks or would think of he knew his design his baby of sorts is still being used 23-24 years, almost a quarter of a century, after it was made and released. I'd personally take it as a huge compliment. We have basically turned these "gaming systems" into miniature music studios. We aren't destroying the product we are upgrading them and showing off what they can do with today's technology. Okay and now I'm shutting up lol.

Or photobucket. It works great too. Dying to see this thing.

Also this site might be useful to someone wanting a cleaner and nicer case lighting:

www.thatscoolwire.com

This stuff is pretty awesome and it's as flexible as string. So you can measure the length you need the. Order just that amount. Also has a separate power source kit you can probably cram into a gameboy. And if you don't want to use the separate power source him they don't pull much power so it probably wouldn't be to hard to wire it to a 5v source on the gameboy pcb.

Also I know someone is working on making a case lighting kit using this stuff but I'm not going to to disclose as to who that is.

Good luck man and again hope this helped.

Using Ryan high grain sand paper like 400-600 you can actually sand the LEDs themselves and it helps to diffuse the light also so you don't have a really sharp point of light. You can also use a finger nail file also which is my favorite to use because it's close to the the grain you need and you have more control with it because most have handles. Lol hope this helps at all.

Yea I don't know about 100$ + shipping for all of them not modded. You might sell then easier also if you sold them separately for around 20-30$ a piece also. Btw I can't tell in your pictures, how good of condition is the clear boy? Are there Any serious visual flaws like scratches or anything? And how about the black? I see the lettering on the black is kinda messed up as you mentioned. Mostly concerned with the clear boy though. Im considering buying it if you can let it go by itself. I have a painting technique I want to try on it. But we can't have a lot of scratches on it, also depends on if you'll even key it go by itself. PM me please an let me know if you are interested in selling it alone and maybe with the black one as well, I something in mind for it too possibly.

Edit:  It's getting a lot quicker and easier to be nice, nowadays...

Exteme LOLing happening right now.

But yea we were all new at some point. No one can really teach you anything it's really all about playing with the programs. How if you go the LSDJ route, which is for gameboy, there's a guy on YouTube that posts as LSDJguides and he posts instrument build and shows you a quick tip on how it can be used. Watching enough of these will help you get used to the program layout quickly. Also if you have an iPhone or iPad I think even iPods now can use it look for the LSDJ patch book. It's just a bunch of instrument builds people have made and you can use it as a way to keep track of you own builds by adding yours to the list. Again this is useful for lsdj.

As for other software I'm not to familiar with fami tracker or anything. However I know there's a little music thing in Mario paint on te SNES that is kind of fun to play with. You can did it for about 5$ and you'll need the mouse pad which cost about 10-20$ on eBay and amazon. Probably wouldn't be a bad little thing to play with to get some basic beats going.

Also there is a little mini game in te gameboy cameras called Trippy H which is kinda cool to pay with from time to time. I personally haven't found much use for it but I know some people go nuts for it....thinking About it I have quite a few gameboy cameras maybe I should sell some lol.

Hope I helped a little. This site is broken down into systems so just decide what you want to work with and go from there man. Good luck.

Oh man that thing is EPIC!!! If you sell the yellow one I will take the calico boy. Other than the speaker is anything else wrong with it? Missing pixels or anything?
