I can imagine how it could work in a very simple, hardly generative way that wouldn't require the musician to make "sound libraries" or whatever - unless you count stems as a library. I dunno if it'll work the way I'm imagining it, though!

Awaiting a reply! smile

Sounds like a good first attempt! In addition to what everyone else has said, I reckon the kick needs to be quite a lot stronger - there are a lot of ways to achieve this, though.

Lurk around and keep up with LSDJ related threads when they pop up, I've been learning a whole lot just from reading these forums!

my cart/rom came with a bunch of "songs" on it except i think they were just random data cause the names were all like fi2kj9hdufhufhdfhf

anyway yeah, there's tutorials on youtube and .savs to poke around in. i reckon starting with some cover versions is great to help you figure stuff out and develop technique - they don't have to be amazing and you don't need to "release" them or whatever but it's a great way to practice, i reckon

the cover art is really cool!
the song is a bit of a skeleton still and needs more detailed instrumentation before it can be more than just backing music
it's begging for a solo with big pitchbends and vibrato, like a lap steel guitar.

is there anything you can do to control the phase of a slow vibrato or do you just have to settle for PFF?

OKAY so I get how this works now that I'm at home and able to try it and I see why this question is really dumb!

You can control your pithc bu usin P:01 then after some time place P:00 PITCHED SOUND WILL BE FIXED. for a moment that u place P:01 again or something like that. I love this kind of tick heart

Yeah this is handy with kickdrums when you want the bass and kick to play at the same time on the same channel (or at least sound like it). If you put a transpose right after the P:00 command you can play whatever dang bass note you like as well.

Oh, really?  How is HF calculated then?

They're pre-defined LFO speeds AFAIK

Ah, so that works on PU1? I tried doing that on PU2 but it just got stuck at the bent pitch. Cool.

It works on both, or at least it does for me. When my Kick/bass is a pulse it's nearly always on PU2.

a lot of girls tell me it's really uncomfortable

so how about pitchbending downward? is there anything you can do to control the phase of a slow vibrato or do you just have to settle for PFF?

oh, i was joking about being an expert
if i ever say i'm an expert about anything it's a joke

but anyway, there's that one font that's used in like a million billion games (slight hyperbole) - just call a spade a spade tbh!

it's definitely not the standard gameboy font, which also looks really neat.

i play a lot of tetris so that makes me an expert on the standard font.

You can show printscreen

i'd have to take a photo of my gameboy screen for that, hehe

For PUx and NOI channels I find it easier to set the envelope of the instrument to something like 1D and use the table to choke the volume sweep with a single E command, or start with E10 at the top of the table and then shape the envelope with Ex0 commands further along.

For WAV I set play mode to manual, set the volume shaping in the synth section, then use F commands in lieu of E commands as per the 2nd method above.

I'm bad at explaining things

^ you use two gameboys though, right? can't imagine a kick drum sounding great with M00, heh...

E commands, yo. It's not really a sidechain per se but you can use volume envelopes to the same effect.

if you're using an EQ and not a multiband comp a little automation can go long way. personally, i've rarely found the need to automate EQ on anything other than vocals - but it might be handy for tracker music in some situations!

If nothing else, weeklybeats has helped me practice coming up with a lot of ideas really quickly, and then finding a good one to roll with for an hour just to see what happens.
