Hey nerds
I'll be in Vancouver BC at the end of this January, for the shortest, until September, for the longest, forever.
I realize that this must get asked a lot but I'm wondering whats going on around the area?
Is it Fighter X & co turfy turf?
Who does visuals?
Asif are we going to start cooking together?

ewwwwwwwwwww

this sounds like fun!

THIS IS THE STORY:
After about a year of VJing with pikix, even though I was loving the simple  I was getting increasingly frustrated with the frequent crashes and other handicaps that came with the GP2X, like the external power supply falling out and parts being hard to replace.

Still scared of VJing with laptops, and lacking coding skills to make anything myself, I tried out, at Datapop last week, THIS THING:

PS24VJ
Developed by the same bro who developed pikix, it is also a VJing software that functions with the same idea: loading and looping clips with the option of adding on some effects, except it runs on a PS2 instead of a GP2X, which means that the setup already comes with a composite video out and an external power supply.

1. The video quality is supremely better. Apparently, it will soon support 640x480 size clips.
2. A much more intuitive (and prettier) interface than pikix
2. oh man, OH MAN is this thing stable. I played through 8 30min sets with Omeros, with ONE minor freeze... possibly the lowest number of crashes for me.

If any of you have tried pikix, or wanted to try VJing with a handheld console and hate crashes as much as I do, I definitely recommend giving this one a try!

THE END.

COOL~!

Well I think terms like 'glitched-out' are a bit overused and also rather incorrect as very few visualists actually use glitched visuals at all.
In terms of any reporting at all, I always appreciate subjective sincerity.
What images struck you? What aspects of timing or cutting seemed to work the best? What things that you saw did you like/didn't like? Visuals are meant to enhance the overall experience of being at a show, and don't prescribe to predetermined standards of aesthetics so your insight as a viewer, is as valuable as any kind of judgement that would come from a so-called 'expert'.

as for trying to help people, I've been giving loads of workshops and lectures for the past 10 years,
in Holland and abroad, teaching kids in school and organized 3 vj battles in Holland the past decade,
so I think that's a fair contribution to the scene. And too bad that I couldn't give them for blip, I've offered
it every time.
