PureData can run on a Raspberry PI. So you could technically use the Guitar Hero-controller as a HID-device, stuff a RPI into it and build a synth with PD. I think it's better than Arduino since you can run it all on one thing.

Rachel Weil uses ROM hacking, right? So read up on that.
(edit: she apparently writes in 6502 assembly)

And you can of course create a ROM yourself.
Coding for old systems is a ton of fun, but also quite the challenge and can be very exhausting.
You need to learn a language suitable for what you want to do (ie: C, Assembly)
And you need to learn about the hardware, and the tools to compile for it.

Set aside an hour to google about all this.
You'll get a more clear sense of what you can or cannot do, and what you need to learn in order to do so.

No.

At exactly 8 p.m every day I compose for exactly one hour.

If you have some software that can route midi info or osc to keypresses (like controllermate for example) you can just make a puredata (or max... or...) patch that automates some keypresses quite easily.

I would look into Modul8 since it's so simple to get it to do stuff that looks nice with audio and bla bla. Kind of boring to work with though.
There might be some processing scripts you can run, or you can learn how to write visuals of your own, processing is pretty simple.

I programmed this for the GBA to display somewhat random patterns. But that was very time consuming and (for me) hard.

Also, a friend of mine use old video mixers which he feedbacks with their own videosignal. Looks really good and you might be lucky enough to find a mixer from the 80s for cheap.

Whatever, we all know a backlight and prosound is well worth the hassle.
Essential or not, they're very nice features that does not cost a lot of money or time.

ATM I'm trying to listen to Autechre's Exai all the way through... I'm getting there. I like the album a lot so far though.

Other than that the latest (free!) release by Oval is very nice where he's met a bunch of singers that all in a way interpret/appropriate some tracks from O and ovalDNA. Very nice.

Also, Evol released all their cut bits n pieces from 2010 - '13 as a huge track which is superb in all ways. Hoover love.
(Bought the little cardboard print that comes with - together with the Goodiepal book, wow)

Sensate Focus' "remix" "Heatsick Deviation" on PAN is pretty stunning as well, looking forward to the next in the series on Editions Mego where he teams up with Mat Steel (together as SND)

Oh, oh- and The Knife's latest single is very nice.

Excited about:
Evol - Proper Headshrinker
Sensate Focus - 2
Atom™ - HD
µ-Ziq - Somerset Avenue Tracks (if they ever go digital)
Emptyset - Material

It's like the early cams on cellphones, just like nordleif said.
I like that the color information is saved at the bottom of every pic.

Very confident sound design, well made and overall tight-sounding.
It has a 'sound' for sure.

I don't get where "glitch" comes into this? Is it because it is 'in'?
Nothing sounds really 'glitchy', it's very determinate in it's character.

Overall it sounds like a very well-crafted album. Somewhat cliché-ridden, but good ones at that.
(Although rather clichés from contemporary club music rather than chip)

I just bought a TI-82.
