Wow, I can't believe this thread exists. Haven't been to this site in ages but just popped in to see if there were any LGPT developments.

I've been in Spokane for like 10 years. I'm kind of a recluse but I've been making a habit of at least coming out from under my rock when the Inlander Volume festival goes down in the summer. I don't know of any chip-minded people really. I saw a video game cover band over the summer but that was about it.

I once did a meager amount of LSDJ stuff myself but my stuff is weird and I haven't done any chip stuff in a long time. More Elektron-oriented lately, when I have the time/inclination for tunes. However I just found out my company is probably moving to the valley and realizing the ridiculous bus commute would be a good chance to dust off LGPT and maybe LSDJ if I don't end up buying one of those Electribe samplers when they come out.

Anyway I'd be up for hanging out and talking shop sometime.

Also hi ovenrake! Miss you buddy, I still think about that fun night we had w/ Chris, John & Jake in T-town! Please do play a show in Spokane sometime!

Awesome release. Glad to hear about NYE - now I have something to look forward to.

9-Heart, Yeah I kinda feel that way about the old design too but I get why they did it. It would be awkward as hell to navigate mp3 playback and recording on a 3x7segment display.

That said, after I get the miniKP2, I'm going to hang onto my miniKP1, at least initially, maybe use it for more scary feedback jams w/ my 4-track (so fun!). Besides, 2 KPs are more fun than 1!

I kind of love mine but I get irritated by it sometimes. I'm not a huge fan of how centralized it is when you use its sequencer - it's one of those pieces of gear that forces you into a workflow and as fine as you dig that flow it's great, otherwise you're SOL. The best thing to do is to chop up jams or whatever into percussive-ish chunks and bash the pads like J-Dilla. So funnnnn!

I concur about JJOS2XL, it rules, it turns it into a very powerful machine. Also JJ just dropped some updates today I think!

Also fuckin' Chris Carter uses/used MiniKPs, come on! What's not to like about this pic:

Anyone get a hold of the miniKP2 yet? They're out now, right? I can't seem to find any reviews anywhere.

I like the idea of having a recorder and KP in one. I'm tempted to get for use w/ my Shruthi-1 to record sequencer jams on the same device I process them with. I'm concerned about build and sound quality, especially noise, though. And it sounds like to make these able to sip on 2 AAs instead of 4, as well as power an OLED, they've reduced the headphone output even more than on the first minis, which frankly sucks.

wedanced, I hear where you're coming from w/ the Kaoss line. I thought they were dumb as hell until I got a miniKP on a whim. Now I think it's really inspiring. It's surprising how much expression you can get out of just a 2-axis keypad (EDIT: derp, touchpad), it's made me realize how important timing is. It's changed how I patch too - I used to make megalomaniacal 16-param beast patches, now I want to try to figure out what the most expressive, minimal set of parameters (or parameter combinations) are. Trying to get down to like 2-4 parameters is a fun challenge.

Can't speak for the kaossilator. It doesn't look that fun to me but I don't feel that strongly about it. If someone gave me one, I would certainly give it a chance before throwing it out of a moving vehicle.

Whoa, haven't listened to any little-scale in a while. Is the juke/footwork vibe a new development?

I have a bunch of different color scheme settings saved as schemes and I tell you some of my personal settings if you want.

(Or you can just mess around with it until you find a setting you like.)

Does anyone know of a way to make palettes or color schemes like this and save them to the LSDJ ROM for use on a GBC/GBA?

I discovered him early on in learning about trackers and tracking and it spoiled me. I've been disappointed with almost all other modules I've heard since. Highlights: "alterraid", "4b33" (it's pretty short, but check out the filesize...), "frequent", "control e", "zzzbla", and more.

Some of these "late 90s" mods blew my mind. Partly because I already had one of them on the Merck Squadron sampler 12" I had purchased some years prior - that was a pleasant surprise. Also 4mat mentioned Appelsap but I'll drop that link again cos it's awesome. ftp://ftp.scene.org/pub/music/artists/mellow-d/appelxm/

This is really powerful. So much that it's making me really hungry for 2 features:
- MIDI input, at least for clock. But keyboard control of these MIDI instruments would be... madness.
- Note velocity transmit.
Not trying to look a gift horse in the mouth at all. This is already off the hook - I can do stuff with it I can't do with anything else.

3 options:
1) Cut the end off a busted 1/8" cable and stuff it into the headphone jack.
2) Remove the speaker.
3) Install a switch for the speaker.
