At first glance the layout doesn't seem ten times better than 8BC to me, but I don't use the site, so maybe I'm wrong.
I thought this was the main regrouping site after 8BC died. Facebook is Facebook.
Well yes, the layout is a bit.. Busy? But it's totally solid (not broken in a bunch of random places), doesn't have downtime, features mp3 uploads on the front page, it has an adaptive layout for mobile devices, there's a radio feature, and it now has an API for accessing music, pictures, user profiles, comments, and I'm probably forgetting something. That means the interface can be whatever you want it to be. It's a modern version of 8bc.

Part of the reason I made the IOS app (obligitory reference) is this^. Here you would have to go through a lot of tracks to find the good stuff; I wanted a way to audition each track quickly, and save good tunes. Then I was going to make a feature that would just show you stuff from artists you had liked. So maybe it would notify you when ultrasyd uploaded a song. It would have been even more useful with 8bc, because there were ~25 tracks uploaded per day. Here it's more like ~5.
Anyway If you want something similar on your non-iphone, remember that the music section is published as a podcast in iTunes.
Evil Scientist wrote:Absolutely, it's great for record stores but it's a shame that it means non-major labels have to wait months to get things pressed because plants have to give priority to rolling stones reissues. I know it's not a problem everywhere but it's definitely creating problems for a fair few labels. Personally I think it'd be better to have a campaign encouraging people to go to record stores more often than once a year.
So if there's greater demand for vinyl (created partially by RSD), can't there be more pressing plants? Isn't this a supply/demand thing, that someone can take advantage of? Presumably these people are not just buying records on Rsd, but year round. Trying to shrink the vinyl industry seems counter intuitive if you like vinyl.
I always thought the reason it was so expensive to press vinyl was because vinyl is no longer in demand yatta yatta yatta.
Edit: also I am not trying to derail things. Sorry if it seems that way, but you guys are presenting this thing as an antidote to RSD... I'm sure many people didn't know they should hate record store day. Maybe there's a mixed message here.

Isn't putting out vinyl in 2015 like putting out Wax cylinders in the 60s? Which is to say, great and nice?

Oh yes. You are correct. I rarely use PCs hence the error.
Edited for posterity.
Well, I guess some PCs only have the Mic input, as in the picture. But if you have the option, ya know, use the line in.
Also, use the line-in, most Mic inputs are mono.

Anyhow, i think you can still listen. Great tunes as well as a great historical reference to some o the chip music back then.

The8BitMachine wrote:sweet : ) is the app compatible with iOS 6? (my ipod 4th gen won't go any further)
Yeah, iOS 4.3 and up. Goes wayyyy back.
This is a great idea. Any chance you could reduce loading times? Maybe cache them in a different format, something? Thanks for the free app.
If youve got LTE, then chip music radio is everywhere. Fresh from the Google http://www.reddit.com/r/chiptunes/comme
dio_sites/
And of course there s an IPhone app for this website that is basically a radio station: https://appsto.re/us/IVvPE.i

Honestly they'll forget about raves before they forget about Mario.
Hey this isn't the real Windows 93
I don't know what the phenomenon is. But at 4:00 he hits a pretty good groove. I like that it doesn't sound like what I have come to know as the lsdj sound.

Maybe you should make a thoughtful critique, then. That would be a contribution.
