I get a lot of similar condescending comments from people in Alabama. My dad "gets" it, but he hates that I don't incorporate my instrumental works with chip to make it more palettable to him. My extended family doesn't really like it either. My girlfriend loves it, and my friends appreciate it. It's not so bad. The real issue is trying to play live in freaking Alabama. No appreciation for electronic music at all.

Do you think the innards will fit inside of an actual CGB?
If it does; I'm totally down with purchasing one.

Cannot be case swapped with standard GBC, scerwholes do not line up at all on boards, unsure of whether or not it would be safe to drill.

This was the very beginning of my noisy tests and researches on the YM2612 chip CSM mode (speech synthesis) found on the SEGA Megadrive / Genesis consoles.
These tests have served the development of the FMDRIVE Vsti and the special implementation of the CSM I have used.
http://www.alyjameslab.com
Also possible future implementation on the hardware side...(Seb plz add this to GENMDM smile )
This is a custom ROM (running on an Everdrive card) that I made with very basic control on the joypad that sends register writes to the YM2612 chip in real-time.
Of course... to actually make a useful use of the CSM mode, live inputs by hand from a joypad is not fast enough.. hahahaha
congrats if you are able to watch this until the end...
joking aside, there is some really nice stuff we can do soundwise with the CSM...and nobody have used AFAIK this features on the Genny..

I've seen it used in old off-shoot Sonic the Hedgehog hacks on Sonic Retro back in like 07-08. Cool, kinda funny smile will be neat to see be used again.

Just to bump for those interested. Sorry I couldn't buy from you thedimitry, found a deal too good to give up.

For those interested: aspect ratio is a little wacky but totally workable for reading and playing, pitch seems a little off, hates pitch bends and vibrato but I am not sure if it has to do with LSDJ or the CPU of the device (leaning towards CPU though). If you want to know how something sounds on it, let me know. I used my most CPU-intensive track "Rises" which typically lags out DMGs a bit, saw no hit in performance. Buttons are meh, I personally hate their responsiveness but my girlfriend who plays tons of XBOX thinks they are great.

Also, nitro2k01 found a source for his and will have a writeup eventually. I don't have the security bit to get the screws off (yup, same kind as what is on GB cartridges) and built in games.

Discuss.

EDIT FOR UPDATES:

Link port appears to be GBA-GBA SP styled, does not function at all with GBC link cable. IR port is nonexistant. 188 game slots, same 24 or so games repeat in list, bring up game list by booting with no cartridge. Functional bootup color palette options for DMG games just like normal GBC. Confirmed intolerance of any serious pitch bending via P, L, or V commands in LSDJ. Pitch bends do not like commercial ROMs either. Operates slightly slower than real hardware, discernible when playing the same song on real GBC in LSDJ, half-second lag appears after ~1 minute of audio playing. Cannot be case swapped with standard GBC, scerwholes do not line up at all on boards, unsure of whether or not it would be safe to drill.

This thing was really close to being a serious piece of chiptune hardware, not sure if I can give up V, P, and L commands to use this. More than good enough for playing games, however, so it will be nice to have for my single-player non-music endeavors.

How much for Pokemon Blue and Pinball, and has the save batteries been replaced yet?

Going to buy tickets for Atlanta, can't wait. Also, need to know if it's a 18+ show (it sucks being 20 and living in Alabama).

just a tip, using the Google Spreadsheets API and some additional forethought you'll be able to access the data in the spreadsheet to do some interesting things.

i always thought it would be useful to have some kind of decentralized chip artists registry that's not tied to a specific site's database...

Great observation. As someone who is involved in statistical projects and knows how to work some bell curves, this is a very cool prospect to look at in the future.

I have found in work with vocoders that you should try to sing as close to on-pitch as possible or one consistent tone, and enunciation is a big factor in the outcome. However, the way you have your EQ for the voice and carrier set up will affect the sound and how it sounds once your vocal inflections act as a formant. I'm no pro with vocoding (yet), so all I can advise you do is play with EQing, working on getting a super clean vocal recording, and not giving up. Sometimes it takes toodling with the smallest details will make all the difference. Good luck.

Bibin is really wrapped up with school and has a lot of other IRL stuff going on. We used to talk a lot. I'll shoot him a message on Facebook.

There is 12 tone and so called atonal music, much respect to people who do them well.

3 semesters into composing atonal music at my University for atonal comp classes. So hard to get used to, but also extremely expressive. smile Been thinking about adapting some of my works for chip...

Now that sounds like an event worth covering

They cover it themselves and have a writeup, but feel free to link to it and write about the entries you like in it! Lots of technical work goes into some of the songs, some of it might be dubstep, or thrash, or something ethereal. Check it out when the top ten tracks are released later!

Don't forget www.noisechannel.org, they are about to get busy with their annual Summer Bazaar as well as the LSDJ Showdown.

Thebitman- that does sound like it might work, but I don't know how I would go a bout doing that hmm

Another extra physical switch? So you manually throw it to power the LEDS? Might also be a good option when it comes to battery consumption.

This is great! I literally just shipped a DMG with Arduino built in and did the LEDs just like this.
You should do a version with the modes printed on the screen cover! They're not drilled all the way through are they?

kitsch wrote:

no, they aren't drilled all the way through, considered it but wanted to keep cost down, reuse the previous shape, but it also leaves the window open for some neat stuff too

yeah i'm thinking an applique on the side later, the only thing is that since its adaptable for more than one project i doubt i'll ever do something that's committed to one layout or another on the screen pro itself.  the adaptability to different projects, and the way each is installed even, leave too many different options.  better to leave that choice to the user i figure.  but who knows.  if enough people ask for it, i'll just put it to a vote and do it!

Not hard to repurpose something like this, where the holes are punch-out (perforated?) for each LED. Include photoshop templates or something similar for each design and you are golden. wink That way people can color coordinate with LED's and screencovers, as well as other graphics/labels.
