Interested in the Smartboy, programmer, and Apeshit cart. If you tell me what kind of PSP you would prefer, I can acquire you a good conditioned one from a buddy of mine and send it your way.

Can we get the thread name changed to "Vendor Requests and Negotiations thread"? To keep it a bit more neutral, because clearly multiple shops would benefit from this thread, and it would neutralize the atmosphere.

Does anyone have personal experience of recording with GBA SP? I got deal today from work. I could change my old Xbox that I don't need, for 2 GBA SP's.

The GBA SP's sound is pretty comparable to the DMG's. It's not very different at all (some people say it sounds less "warm,") check it out here http://www.herbertweixelbaum.com/comparison.htm I used a GBA SP for a while, it sounded fine. I prefer my DMG, but not by much. Given, the sound varies a bit because the CPU type is different than what was used in the DMG but I find it fine except with complex WAV channel patterns.

No, I am not telling him to do exactly what you are doing. Mother of god, you are like 15 and you just want to feel like you know something and you HURT this scene by spreading misinformation.

The demo ROM is free because it will not save songs to SRAM. It will not save a battery file, so it forces users to either fork out some money for a donation (minimum $0.01 according to the LSDJ site) or to use savestates and not be able to retain savedata on Gameboy hardware. The paid/donated version features saving to SRAM, and is capable of saving songs on hardware. If you read on the LSDJ site you would know that. If you read what people actually wrote you would be faring better in this scene.

@ Bit Wish, I get your point. Im gonna try to get LSDj soon so I can get started. But as I said before, it's not too easy to get those Flash Cards and stuff like that in here.. So I need to wait few weeks to get even started..

You should download bgb and i can pm you my lsdj log on code if you want.

DON'T do this. If you want to do what I did starting out (trying out LSDJ the right way and still keeping my first tracks) check this out:

Download the demo here. http://www.littlesounddj.com/lsd/latest … 9_demo.zip You can buy the software for a small donation at www.littlesounddj.com/ when you are ready (as little as $0.01 USD will get you the software). It's easiest to run the software in BGB until you buy a flashcart, if you want to buy one. Until then, you can have different demo files for each song, each with their own save states (since you can't save the songs to a battery file). Later when you download and pay for the real ROM with saving, you can load up the save states on top of the paid ROM, save the song data, and keep your first songs. You can extract and consolidate these songs into a single save file using LSDManager. http://code.google.com/p/lsdmanager/dow … n=2&q= it is a little time consuming but well worth it if you are looking to keep your first instruments and other things you may have learned or created through LSDJ.

Don't use someone else's copy of LSDJ, buy it for yourself if you can. If you choose to accept Bit Wish's offer, that's up to you. The method I have suggested for you is how I got started with LSDJ. It's not the only way to start, but it definitely skirts around the "no illegal sharing" clause. Good luck, PM me if you would like more help getting set up.

There's a very little discussion about GBA in these type of forums. Why's that? Does anyone one use them to make music and if not, what's the reason?

There's not a lot of good software for making music on the GBA, and the GBA and GBA SP models have a slightly different sound than the DMG and CGB, so it's not "for everyone." Some people, such as Auxcide, Russellian, and Solarbear use SPs though, but they also use DMGs.

In my very limited experience with hardware I have found that devices with parts soldered directly to the main PCB have trouble operating when they are distanced too far. It could be a matter of carrying the signal, the wires not being sheilded and there being some sort of interference, and sometimes tiny wires short out due to bending. These all can happen with larger gauges too I suppose, but I guess someone could explain this better than me.

It's stuff like this which is why video cables like VGA and HDMI can be only so long before you have to use a signal repeater, I think. Signal loses integrity after a while. I think that a larger gauge of wire might be a better carrier since repeating isn't an option. Perhaps a more skilled electronics guy than myself can lend a voice?

I remember on the benheck forums people who did mods involving extending cartridge slots weren't using a large enough gauge of wire and had similar issues you did when making portable consoles. Perhaps you need to use some slightly thicker stuff? Other than that, you may want to try rewiring the cartridge slot again just in case you accidentally mixed some wires up.

^ there is a new tool out for EMS multi-sav...  i'll try to dig up that link.

but, wow, what an update!

The thread is here http://chipmusic.org/forums/topic/9501/ … hat-is-it/ however, the patches that exist currently do not support LSDJ (it uses all available SRAM, unlike Pokemon Blue and other games that are supported by the patches).

Nitro - I might ship you my GB Transferrer II and plain blue EMS cart I got from PianoGameboy, I won't be able to use it for a few months until I build a proper PC with a parallel port. Let me know if you are interested. Not sure if it's the kind of LPT port device you are looking for.

I think what I interpreted this as may be horribly wrong, but I think goto80 is talking about how we can create art using our hardware and software, but instead we may not be focusing 100% in the right direction. As we continue to further things like LSDJ peripherals and Gameboy this, Atari hardware that, we aren't creating new software like we used to. Nitro2k01 blew our minds not too long ago with his new waveform generation thing, and that is only one step. goto80 isn't saying anything sucks as it is, but what the chip scene has accomplished thus far is still only breaching the outer atmosphere of what these platforms can do. We can be content with making music, and short movie-like demo stuff, but there is still more to make. New ideas, images, sounds, and interface, new feelings too.

We possess all the tools and the knowledge to make new software and repurpose our chip hardware, but we don't seem to be so interested in that right now Stuff like nitro's homebrew ROMs are awesome, and there is room for plenty more awesome in this scene. Why don't we contribute some more? (I don't know, I wish I knew the answer to that.)

^ That's what I gathered, but I may be wrong.

Thanks for the update! USPS has been losing all of my packages since December, yet somehow all my bills come right on time. I'm looking into it, glad to know that the CD hasn't been sucked into the blackhole (yet)!

Any news on when the CD's ship out? I'm eagerly awaiting mine smile

Well produced, good sounding, but I feel like unless we see more songs like this from Xilent we can write it off as "capitalizing on nostalgia" and stuff hmm

It would be interesting to see an open-sourced or dissassembled form of the Sappy driver seeing as it is so popular for communities and fanbases that wish to rip whole soundtracks.

Not to mention, something similar to Piggy for GBA with some sample support would be absolutely sick.
