FUCK ME!!!!! NEW KPLECRAFT!!! FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUHAHAHAH
One of my favourite chiptune acts of all time. Thank you, 8BP.
Some nice artist pictures, good to see for someone who couldn't make it. Cheers!!
A point which might be interesting for dicussion, why so little nostalgia for the early/mid 3d console graphics era. I am far from expert but other than Rosa Menken I cant think of anyone who has done much with it. Rosa had some awesomely creepy glitchy polygon stuff happening for little-scales 2009 blip set.
If anyone can point me in direction of some useful N64 music software I will use it in every single song I make for the rest of time. My N64s have already taken up most of my life; they may as well take up the rest of it!
Musically, I think one of the reasons is that these consoles don't have a particular sound defined by the limitations of their soundchip, and in turn there isn't much of a nostalgic association one can make with it, or any logical reason to make music with such a console instead of a computer. According to Wikipedia, the N64 could play 'uncompressed PCM, MP3, MIDI, and tracker music' - if this is the case, then we may as well be making said music on Renoise or whatever. It could in theory be ''N64 music''.
As for the visuals, some people seem to genuinely believe late SNES pixel graphics actually look better than the muddy polygonated graphics I grew up with (I mean, I would argue the graphics in games like Earthbound have definitely aged better than, say, F Zero X, even though I adore both). I guess there's something tacky about polygonated graphics, in the same way that glossily produced 80s pop virtually always sounds a lot more dated than its 70s equivalent.
Like the quintessential flavour of 80s pop, however, only a fairly specific generation of consoles have that late 90s look. Therefore, I bet there's a lot of nostalgic N64/Playstation/Saturn (less of the latter ) fans who would dig it, and also that there is a useful visual flavour to these consoles that no generation of chip, earlier or later, could get just right.
Edit - I just looked through the viral vacuum lady's videos. I fucking swear I am going to get that person VJ'ing at a chip show one day. Something about the combination of cats, boobs, cheap computer animation and Australia reminds me of Lektrogirl.
Shit if only I'd have known sooner!!!
Just noticed that no-one's posted any Ristar tunes yet...
DOS dancefloor stormers. Possibly the coolest concept ever.
Absolutely top-notch!!
'Lo-Biton' is fucking AMAZING.
Fucking hell, this must be one of the most high profile chipmusic EPs released this year! Looking forward to jumping about to this.
CDK's been rocking it lately!
YEEAAAHHH
Ant1 totally has to do a Metrodub release.
The ultimate!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I logged on earlier today, all I saw was Je Mappelle's post. Now I return to 7 pages that have quickly and efficiently reinstalled a hatred of chiptune stealers in my system, with aimless meme throwing replaced by cool ZX Spectrum name-calling. Fuck yeah chipmusic.org.
Bloody hell Yerzmeyey this is amazing. Pushing the boundaries yet again, the combination of pure chip sound + new effects is the concept I'm probably most interested in across the whole spectrum of the use of chipmusic!
(And don't be so hasty - I love a bit of early electronic music; everything from Daphne Oram and Delia Derbyshire to Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream via Brian Eno and Terry Riley! )
Sick! Have a blast. I'll see you all the month after .
Stevens, new artist name?
Haha! Well pointed out...Steve is the official one still - I should change it!
And Lazerbeat - I promise a slew of gigs backed up by new material with some kind of release is happening after A Levels!!
'Confidence Shattered' is really, really great, and it's fantastic to finally see an ''official'' release for a version of 'Heavy Handed Dreams'...the whole thing is produced incredibly well too! One of this year's most promising releases; I can only hope more people check it out, for their sake!
Come down to London to play a show sometime...!
It begins.
Yo!
Some friends are launching a new EP with a gig and I've been asked to play too. It'll be my first gig in a while so expect some new weapons in my attempt at lo-fi rave frenzy! Anyone feeling the lack of energetic UK micromusic events should head on down - Kabogaeries are hardly chip but they rock the cheapo Casio sounds and are dope live.
The venue is currently secret, and to be confirmed...rather than wait on it though, I figured I should post now anyway. I'll update when it's announced.
Facebook page is here.
