im from the United Kingdom as well

wow, I'm from the UK too! :-O

make sure you get a mouse!

maxYMiser will support 520 machines, but the most fun option is a 1040STe because you get an extra soundchip for sample playback, proper audio outs, upgradeable memory and it formats PC disks

xyno: the MIDI output supporting version of maxYMiser was actually out 7 months ago or something wink

You can download from http://preromanbritain.com/stj The software now supports hard drives in a good and screen-less way. Play tested at SuperByte and on tour in The Netherlands

Here is the change log:

Version 1.40:
Removed BPM calculator

Added directory shortcuts on keys 0, 1 to 9

Updated online help

Restored console byte in file selector to help people without mice

Correct cookie detection of STe+IDE interface

Workaround for TOS bug(?) which changed $4F2 during running auto folder software, then affecting refresh rate

Workaround for HDDriver bug which caused crashes reading to non-word aligned buffers on 68000

Flashing floppy light for visual feedback on harddisk systems

I think so, its adjustable between 30 and 90 degrees

I have an ES-1 Mk2, but don't really use it live. I find the way it works for programming melodies slightly annoying. I keep it because it helps me test maxYMiser.

Channel splits are overrated wink

Some STe computers are worse than others. Try turning the microwire master volume a little, that can sometimes help a surprising amount.

maxYMiser has commands to do that, or there's also a desk accessory.

There was a really decent sounding 4-channel tracker for the ST called Quartet. I think it's output was about equivalent to 8 bit / 16kHz. Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPhcNthcweQ

many good tunes were made on Quartet, but I wouldn't recommend it as the first sample tracker to look at on Atari in 2013. Maybe Hextracker as 4mat suggests or one of the variants of Protracker.

Nah I'm on windows these days. There was a release cursor shortcut, but it was set to a key I didn't have, so I solved that.

Only problem now is changing the resolution. I tried changing the monitor setting to 800x600, but Maxymiser got all fucked up and went to a red screen. It works on the incredibly tiny default resolution but it gets super blurry if I make that bigger.

I've been meaning to try atari stuff for years. Thought i'd give it a shot while i've got some freetime.

options (spanner) -> display -> low resolution -> double size (no stretch)
options (spanner) -> display -> medium resolution -> double height (no stretch)
