The biggest thing that I would want to implement would be for the effect editor to autosave when you leave it (scrolling down to 'save' is terrible).

It's nice that they keep a public record of everyone who signed out the carts and transfer devices.

That's a kinda silly mistake, but there is a lot of good information on the site about getting a development environment set up:

I'll be bookmarking that site, thanks!

If you want to go with a tracker (which I would recommend solely out of my love for them) then Renoise or Skale would probably suit you best (they both have VST support).

FT2 help says which commands are Protracker compatible, I think.
If not, yeah, only PT or PT-like commands are going to work. The conversion will be complicated, too. if you start using FT2 you might as well start using XM. Chances are you might do something in FT2 which is not compatible with MOD format and you will end up with a nightmare (this happened to me once, I still haven't finished one song that I started in FT2 because the conversion to MOD has been a nightmare.

Yeah, if I were you I'd switch over to XM.  It'd be easiest.

However, if you really must stick with .MOD, then I recommend saving your song as a .MOD after inserting any command or envelope you think might not be compatible as it'll throw you a warning saying such.

It's in beta, I believe, so support might be spotty.

Thanks for the quick response, folks.  My friend actually found a MIDI in patch for  DOS Box and says he doesn't mind that it's a little flakey.

And to answer ne7's question, I just prefer FT2 to milkytracker.  I've been using it since I first started highschool, so it's what I'm used to.

Just asking this question for a friend actually (I've never found a need for a MIDI controller with a tracker).

So, I'm wondering if DOS Box has any support for MIDI-over-USB devices.  He's got an Oxygen controller that he wants to use with FT2 but he's running it within DOS Box, will DOS Box be able to interpret the MIDI data and send it to FT2?

The other question he has is this:  What midi hardware is available (recommended) for use in an actual DOS era tracking PC?

thats a pretty good idea.. maybe mp3 player with other ambient shits...

or tell some stage jokes.

Yeah, being comfortable on stage can really help if you have a mic.  Crack a few jokes, chat up the audience and just show the audience that you're having a lot of fun, too.

Yeah but this is 2010, and we have automation now

It's just an example of how important it is to take a lot of care in automating your mixing levels and whatnot.  We may have automation now but that just means that one person has to do the job of several (albeit, with computer assistance).

Yea I remember reading about abbey road sessions where it would be all hands on deck for a mixdown with all the assistants riding a groove o faders and mutes for the final mixdown.

My dad ran a music studio here in Toronto for several decades and I can assure you that was standard operating procedure for big mixes.

I'd like to point out that the source code is available and is well documented and commented.  Just wondering what kind of things people would want to see in an updated version?

I'm assuming you want a pounder-like program for the NES and the closest thing would be Lickshot.  Any chance you could explain your needs furthur?

I'm kinda digging this program.  There are some awkwardness issues but I like the FTII feel and it's got got some neat features.

I'm sorry to say it, but I think I'm the only one in Toronto here who book chip music gigs.  However, I've got one coming up and I'll certainly bring you in if I can!

It was an insane event, totally crazy.  This footage is only the half of it.  We had people completely encircling us.
