Hey that was cool.

Alright so I found my younger brothers old TI-83+, now I just need the link cable. I'm a bit excited. I'm also a bit disappointed to hear about the low battery life.

I assume the sound comes out of the mini-headphones jack? Why would somebody put sound generating capabilities in a calculator in the first place?!?

I love your kick. Good stuff. This has a pretty cool groove, but I lost interest after awhile because there wasn't really much of a melody going on through most of it, and the rhythm section wasn't compelling enough to keep me interested during the parts that were lacking melody.

It seems like the lead melody lines were too low in volume, and the sound design if the "rhythm guitar" in the background doing the arpeggios was too simple. I dunno. The rhythm design of the pulse channels in general is too basic for my tastes, and too much 50% pulse-width.

Great percussion, though, and the arrangement of the composition was pretty cool. I liked the buzzy wave channel bass, too.

Of course this is all just my opinion. Keep it up, keep making music.

I have a question though; what exactly IS LSDJ?

May I invite you to read the Chipmusic FAQ located here. Especially item number 3.

1. Hey man, this place needs more diversity. XM format is more than welcome :3
2. It sounds plenty chippy to me. The only way it could be any more chippy is if it had arp commands, haha.
3. that soft arpeggio in the background would be cool if you used samples of different widths to do an LFO type effect.
4. The long notes could use some vibrato, maybe. Also some tasteful portamento and pitch bending would add a bit more "soul" to it.
5. You could vary the drum beat a bit, like do some half-time beats during the "bridge" sections. And have them "play" more naturally as if it is playing with the band rather than just being a drum machine, helping to accent some of the more emphasized notes and stuff. Also could add some cymbals.
6. You could add an extra channel of "rhythm guitar" and have it play the 5th note up from the root of the scale (root+fifth = power chord). It might end up sounding like a bit too much, but you never know. You could at least try it and see how it turns out.
7. I like it. Reminds me of the kind of stuff I'd hear in a game like "Seiklus" and "Lyle in Cube Sector"
8. This constructive criticism is from my personal viewpoint of what I like to hear in music. Feel free to take it with a grain of salt.

I want to be like you when I grow up, btw.

*Listening to the first track* big_smile this is cool and quirky. I like.

Cool shows, cool music, cm.o silliness/drama. The usual. Oh, Ubiktune released a new GAMEBOY album yikes

I'm all for poppish/demoscenish LSDJ

Edit: Oh snap man. Oh snap. This is so good.
Edit: word to the wise: put the long description stuff at the bottom next time wink

This is so atypical for the usual LSDJ music, right up my alley of what I want to be doing. Good job. I applaud you. More people should listen to this.

I don't know if anybody cares, but Virt is... well:

[19:28] <virt> okay check it
[19:28] <virt> shantae: half-genie hero is wayforward's latest project and we're kickstarting it, and the kickstarter has 3 days left
[19:28] <virt> so i am going to begin working on the soundtrack today, and i will stream my computer desktop, audio feed, and webcam as i do this
[19:29] <virt> so i'm going to write at least one track, and possibly more, from scratch while people watch
[19:32] <virt> in case your friends don't know about music production, i will also explain what i'm doing as i work, assuming no prior knowledge
[19:32] <virt> so they can still have a good time just watching and maybe learning a little
[19:33] <virt> should i shave or have 3-day stubble, i have my electric shaver in my hand

So yeah, it is now. If anybody cares, just thought I'd let people know.

btw if you havent listened through this reading the lyrics, you are seriously missing out

Unless you can understand it by ears alone wink

It's kind of fun to listen through once without reading the lyrics, though.

What was it somebody said about being wary of things labeled "official" in regards to chipmusic?

Just realized I hadn't voted. I vote rabbit with human limbs pregnant with an ankh. Ah but the polls are over. Oh well.

This is a very important detail because it outlines the fact that anaaanaannaananana is not under fire here. AANAAANAAANAAANA is a beloved institution.

I like aanaaanaaanaaana posts, a bit of weirdness never hurt the forums.

One bit weirdness is fine. Maybe even 8bits of weirdness, but man lately it's bumped up to like 32bits and that's just too much for any chipmusic artist to take.

And yes I agree with Heosphoros. I don't think this thread is fully of useless junk, but I agree that it isn't really nice to alienate a bunch of people with stuff that would be best discussed in the #chipmusic IRC channel on esper.net server (using an IRC client isn't as daunting as it looks I promise).

Then again, I'm sure there are people who felt alienated by the lack of silly talk. But you can get silly talk into the forum discussions while still remaining on point (remember the thing about balance on the front page when you aren't logged in?). I made friends last year without being silly and freewheeling all over the cm.o forums.

Edit: BTW, this comment isn't directed to this thread, actually. I think this thread is relatively harmless.

huzzah!
