I am stoked about all of these, I can't wait to get a powerpak next time I get paiiiiiddd~~

I've read the Trash80 guide. It's good.

I didn't know that about the GBA prosound, I'd like to see this article on Justin's website…

Like I said, I don't have one with me to check out, but I'm pretty sure it's close to the Game Boy Color. They have the same sort of volume wheel:

There's a small board-mounted potentiometer on the bottom of the unit off to one side of the screen. This is a stereo potentiometer for controlling the strength of the signal going into the headphone preamp circuit, and it connects to the board at five points. One of these is ground, two are left and right going into the potentiometer, and two are left and right coming out of the potentiometer. You can identify which is which with a continuity test feature on a multimeter.

Hey bro.

I haven't taken one apart in a while, but in theory it should be almost identical to pro sounding a Game Boy Color: You just have to connect the three points to the three points on the volume potentiometer.

I haven't been able to find my original GBA, so I can't take it apart and look, but I'm not sure how much room there is internally if you want to panel mount the jack(s). You might have to do the hanging pigtail/dongle like Trash80 did on the very first pro-sound, or like Low-Gain did on his SPs you can see in the recent interview pictures with him.

I hope that was helpful. smile Post up in here if you find any guides or schematics!

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade here, but I see virtually no advantage to doing this outside of the shock value of a color screen in a DMG case.

Furthermore, most of the components in the CGB are surface mount, meaning it would be a pain in the ass to put as many through-hole wire extensions for board-mount components as you would need to do.

I guess my main point is that you will essentially be performing a downgrade on this game boy for a novelty. Unless you're using the extra space you'd get in the DMG case from doing this to add some seriously out there new circuits, like an internal arduinoboy, an analogue filter, a summing circuit like the PISSBox, et cetera, this seems like an essentially destructive mod where you create a "worst of both worlds" game boy.

Is this the first version of Game Boy Advance nanoloop?

I'm going to crosspost from this other thread my current For Trade list:

If you are interested in trades, I have:

  • 25+ various GB and Color games sitting around that I'm mostly willing to part with

  • Two prosound Game Boy Colors

  • Some spare DMG cases and parts, which I can custom dye, retr0bright, or paint upon request.

  • An uninstalled V3 Ultra white backlight

  • A white backlit DMG front board with a switch installed, which I could be talked into swapping out of its current home.

I also need to post a new thread in here about LSDj keyboards, I custom-paint those.

I haven't done it before. I could probably figure it out, but I don't think it would be fully ethical for me to offer this as a service when I don't have a method I prefer figured out yet. I haven't heard of or seen a colored front-lit CGB before, but that's an interesting idea… I wouldn't do it on mine, though. A colored frontlight will distort the colors of the display.

Also, I'd advise keeping the Pokémon one stock since it's collectable, but it is your game boy.

Zazzle's prints look decent, but they are digital prints last I checked, so they don't had the fade resistance of a quality screenprint, or the unique inverse dye qualities of something less typical like a discharge print.

I've been using Spreadshirt for some projects. Decent alternatives (for what i understood) are Zazzle.com, society6.com and what Telerophone said (big cartel).

im with sander, spreadshirt is the way to go.
they have a wide variety of products, printing methods, and ways to set (or not set in my case) commissions.

Wow, that's a clean looking little store you've got there. smile

I'm just curious, but what's the legal situation with reproducing the LSDj logo and the NTRQ logo on soft goods? I thought the LSDj one was trademarked/noncommercial, and I've never known about the NTRQ one.

Yeah, I've seen more than a few bands screenprint their own shirts. If it matches your aesthetic it is a pretty cool option because you essentially make each one unique.

I don't know much about spreadshirt, but I've done merch design for some nonprofits in my area and gotten them estimates from area screenprinters. I know we've gotten American Apparel single color prints for as low as $8 a shirt at I think 50 shirts. That's really not bad at the end of the day, if you think you can move fifty shirts at $10 or $15. wink

If you do actually want an FM VSTi, VOPM is a free, open source one that a few people have used to great effect which sounds beyond decent.

There are a cumulative 8 tracks or so on the FM FUNK compilations Vol. I and Vol. II, including a couple of stellar pieces by virt.

Holy shit, thread over.

Low quality end product. They do digital prints, if I recall correctly.

I think you'd be better off talking to a local screenprinter and looking into something like bigcartel.

Also, it's been a long time since I used Cafepress, so maybe it's different now.

EDIT:

Also, do you already have your own designs ready?

The draw to Cafepress for a lot of people is the simple in-site designer, but if you have a professional design (or are capable of doing a professional quality design yourself), it's kind of pedestrian and limited by comparison.

I'd recommend talking to some design buddies and maybe hiring one of the artists in the community to make something really stunning, if you don't already have your designs together for the final product.
