We are such a happy family.
The best teacher is the hands-on experience. Go through the manual with the game boy right there in front of you.

Stupid Michael Jordan
Come on man, he really made Space Jam work.
Yeah, I hope I remember that correctly. I haven't thought about it in a long time.
Saskrotch wrote:also, i'm pretty sure the pocket has less processing power than a DMG. most of the tracks i write on DMGs end up slowing way down on a pocket, if not crashing.
This. Only an advance or sp can play my songs. All of my dmgs and mgbs slow down and crash. When I release my .savs I wonder how people will react.
This is part of why I have a few Pro-Sound Game Boy Colors around (primarily because I am learning Carillon and want to use Pushpin). My clear purple one is my baby and go-to game boy right now. I also find the screen a lot more readable for general composing, especially in daylight.
The GBA and GBA SP run older games by literally having a small IC that is the entire CGB on a chip inside of the game boy advance—when you plug in an older cartridge, it hits a button in the bottom of the cartridge slot which activates the CGB chip instead of the Game Boy Advance main circuit.
So, in theory, the things you can write which will crash the MGB and even some DMGs will run on the Game Boy Color.
but really, it all goes downhill when you first learn holding select and using the d-pad switches menus.
I am pretty sure I figured out that B+D-Pad tabs between sequential pages and chains without going up the menu tree entirely on accident and it blew my mind and I never went back.
Really, though, the best way to learn is to LURK MORE.
(I know that is kind of a dickish way to put it, but I really wanted to say it before Saskrotch.)
Sincerely, though: Welcome aboard, RyuX! We're all going to have a good time!
Progress!
I went to the local Discount Electronics Dell Liquidator today and found that they, like most electronics stores I've found these days, only carry one variety of PS/2 keyboard, which is inevitably priced at about $10. I've checked the area Goodwill stores as well, they also only have USB keyboards as of late.
Voici le clavier du jour:
Selling Point: Can be used dexterously!
The model number is an OG KBJ-006B, available from NewEgg, amongst other places.
I asked them if I could try it out, and the merchant said "…I actually don't think we have any computers with PS/2 ports."
Then I got to be the coolest kid in school as I explained that I wanted to try it with my Game Boy, and demonstrated thusly. To my chagrin, this keyboard just works—so, the one I painted the first time is perfectly functional, with the exception of just not being entirely LSDj friendly for whatever reason.
So, now all that's left is for me to paint this one, make sure my process works, then reassemble and test again.
Then, I can easily make as many of these as fits demand.
I respect you for testing your product properly
Thanks man, I really appreciate that sentiment. I'm glad it looks that way; I feel like I've been stringing people along with technical difficulties this whole time, and looking stupid in the process.
Anyway, we have now identified a current production, readily available, and confirmed 100% LSDj compatible keyboard, so it was worth it.
No one can quit chiptune.

Oh, thanks! I checked the error log, it's the very same error.
I played with settings on the host side in VirtualBox, and enabled hardware 2D and 3D video acceleration.
Now DefleMask will run, but it won't load a skin and shows whatever part of the background the window opened over as the permanent DefleMask background. Kinda weirdddd. This is a unique issue because of VirtualBox—I don't think I can really update my video drivers or OpenGL package, I just have to tweak setting in VirtualBox until it works.
I have some of that stuff. The stuff I'm familiar with is a reflective clearcoat, you put it over whatever color you want in a single or double light coat. If you wanted to do it from the inside of a clear case, though, you'd do this coat first and the base coat over it on the inside.
I don't think it'd work well from the inside of a clear case, though. s.p.r.y. might have had another sort of paint…
…I have a lot of paint around the house. I had some strange hobbies for a while…
I'm running Windows XP SP3 in a VirtualBox installation on OS X 10.6.8.
DefleMask crashes as soon as I open it, during the attempt to spawn a window. I'm not sure how to check the error code to see if it matches wailord's, but I will test that file you've posted.
Thanks for making a cool thing, Delek!
EDIT: That test pack crashed in the same way for me.
Looks like it's back to pretending I'll actually learn paragon5 and FamiTracker for the time being.
Sweet. Now I need to get some cases and get cracking with the paint…
I'm considering trying to tint a clear case with Spray Lens Tint, but I'm not sure how well that would work… plus, clear is such a great color to begin with.
I don't know that I've ever seen anyone dissect and study the Game Cube Game Boy Advance adapter, but the Super Game Boy (SGB) is actually a complete game boy on a card that runs I/O through the SNES—all of the actual computing takes places inside of the SGB.
As such, it's fairly simple to pro-sound an SGB. I've heard that they have a different tonality and are louder and a bit bassier, but I wouldn't know personally… I have a couple sitting here that I need to do that to.
Differences between the SGB and normal game boys are hard to sum up, but there are a few. LSDj has been programmed to compensate for them in playback, so to my knowledge it is fully compatible.
A good place to start with very technical questions about the SGB would be the article on the GBdev Wiki.
I almost clicked "report" on that the first time I saw it.
Then I realized it didn't technically break any rules—only common guidelines for human decency.
Then his destiny would include repairing it—reforging the legendary DMG.
Can't stop destiny, bro.
