G minor diminished chord. Key of g minor.
Edit: I'm stupid, that would be a G A# C# chord

Bug:
When you select that oscillator algorithm with 4 operators on the YMU759 on Windows 7, you get that graphical error with the AR. You can actual still move the bars if you click in between the bars. It is repeatable as I've done it after reopening the program. Sorry if this has been already mentioned/fixed.
Maybe some screenshots of the game could remove some skepticism, even if just concept art. This could also help some get a better idea of the type of music.
acording to the skins from ILKKE these are the "codes". The piggy should have kind of list of the skins... or just something like... NEXT SKIN / NEXT / NEXT and so on...

Just thought I'd mention a little bug I encountered. It seems that piggy won't use the correct colors if the hex code has lower case letters in it. A minor bug, but I thought I should still mention it and it could help some if they experience the same problem.
If someone would like to try to fix this, here is some additional info: I tested using the current stable windows version and I saved the .xml using notepad. Sorry if this has already been posted or even solved in the ghetto release.
Anywho, I'm also wondering if there are any good samples or sample packs around. It could also be cool to share some skins aswell.
I honestly think this won't happen for a while. Right now, pop is craving off of electro house (If you listen to some pop from just a couple years a go, you can hear a big transition). Considering Deadmau5 is considered underground to many people around my area, I doubt chiptune would spring up as a new trend. If it does, though, there is no way it will actually sound like chipmusic, it will be warped to hell probably mixed with dubstep and electro house.
I really liked it. I think you nailed what you were going for.
@terbografx, well np ... im glad than that helped you. Another advice will be, check what other artists are doing. See the details that some artists add, how they manage the colors, how they use the textures, the sizes of the pieces, etc.... I recomend http://www.pixeljoint.com and http://www.wayofthepixel.net
And the best advice is... practice ... practice and practice... this will improve anything you decide to do.
Definitely recommend these sites.
Your pieces look great, but try playing with adding more colors. It seems that you are only using about 2 colors for each area, so working with more, not too much, may make shading more defined and allow you to practice more with more techniques to define texture.
danimal cannon wrote:listen, the best song I've ever heard (and best chiptune I've ever heard) was made in one hour. But the person who made it put countless hours into his craft, mastering it. In fact, he even practiced doing compositions in an hour as an exercise (its a really good one!).
It doesn't matter how long it takes you to make a song. Inspiration can strike anywhere, but you have to actually put in the time beforehand to actually be able to capture it. Some tracks on my album were made in a night or 2. Others were made over the course of months.
I get music jobs because I can make decent music, RIGHT AWAY. Like, my deadline is often 3 days later and I have to be able to make something that not only fits the theme but also sounds good in terms of composition, but also production. Guess what? That has taken me ~15 years of music making, and ~7 years of audio production to be able to do that.
But even still, stuff that I spend a little more time with usually turns out better.
the thread isn't about whether one should spend time on music. it's about whether one should spend a long amount of time on a song. on a SINGLE song. of course you have to practise.
oh well you didn't really GET the thread
maybe it was a bad thread to begin with
But even when you are making a single song, that is still practice. Sometimes spending months on one song can help you practice other techniques. When you first start out, you take a while to finish a crappy song. By finishing a song, you may gain skills that you wouldn't by not. As you get better, you don't need to put as much time into making a song, but during your early stages you do. This all depends on a lot of factors, so it can't really be answered. I feel if a song isn't finished, then you shouldn't move onto another. It's like leaving a Rubik's cube half finished and then trying to solve another up to that point.
Seems nice. I can't give it the best listen right now, but the tracks are very eerie.
That is definitely the best.
What would you guys reccomend for someone who understands synthesis, electronic composition, and some tracker basics (mostly messing with Sunvox).
So. Is there a generic term that we can all agree on using instead of "EDM" then, since that has such negative connotations attached to it?
We could use electronica or electronic music, but that isn't necessarily dance music
