Actually im fairly sure the laptop in question is a government issued laptop for highschoolers here.
Software comes pre-packaged and nothing else can be installed. Whenever you connect to the internet it phones home and if changes are found, it can be bricked remotely.
I think the best solution for chainsaw police is to find a web based tracker and save the page to make it available offline.

This thread and a bunch of others mention there a two different variants, the green and blue. I have the blue.
Apparently they aren't interchangeable.
I have just remembered the jar of conductive paint i have. This may be the solution i needed in the first place
