They should make it for the original gameboy too. I'd pay for that

I know this is off topic, but this is my discussion anyways and it's not too important as to make a new discussion. I'm making a few logos for Justin Thursday. I sent him some works in progress but he hasn't responded. I thought he was too busy at the time so I didn't take too much notice to that. The thing is, that was a long while ago, and i haven't heard a single word from him. Do you guys know if he's breathing or not?

thanks, roboctopus. I'm also keeping your tutorials at hand for when i have enough practice under my belt.

ordered your ems cart today. Priority shipping. Im crawling up the walls with impatience.

I actually had a dream last night about chiptunes. I was running LSDJ and then the screen turned to marioland on the gameboy. and then bowser was right next to me and I'm like "holy shit this is weird"

not that much about chiptunes, but at least it started as such...

Thanks, Dan. I've already read up a bunch and seen a few hours worth of tutorials that you guys recommended for total novices like me, so I can at least know the very basics of the composition.

someone said we ran out of actual discussion ideas and just started messing around on the forums. I actually have a legitimate question I want to ask, since I don't know jack shit about technical things.

So let's say I listen to a chiptune and find it really awesome. As a beginner, I'll want to know how it's made, and take an actual look at the screens. Are there songs out there that I can download and then import into my EMS cart so I can see how they're made?

I don't want to steal songs or anything. I just want to dissect them and see how they're composed as a learning method.

it all depends on you own views. some say it's its own genre because it uses a signature sound, and some say it's a medium just like guitar. there's jazz guitar, meat guitar, country guitar, etc. all guitar, different genres.

in my personal opinion, it's a medium. But that's always up for debate, and this is one of those debates that will never. ever. stop.

Faerlight, I don't know if you're a troll, but I'm leaning in that direction. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like Washington state is a breeding ground for trolls...

he's new, nitro. really new. cut him some slack.

Pretty sure this is just a lofi joke people make on youtube

I do it for real, no joke. But mostly only for the 8bit "retro" stuff, or the fakebit. Mostly.

Just sayin'...

same here

I like both low rez and high rez. low rez has that "static" that makes it sound retro and high rez has clear and defined sound. both sound unique, and neither is better than the other in my opinion. if you're performing, i can see why you want the best sound possible, though.

I'm starting to feel rather foolish since I just ordered my pocket before reading this. Ugh, well I'll get a CGB as my second.

the main difference between the pocket and color is that the color has immense processing capabilities, giving you the ability to make the fastest, most complex chiptunes you can imagine. I'd get it a while after I already learned how to use LSDJ on the pocket. as someone else said on a different post, people usually adapt to their gameboy's limitations and learn how to actually even use them to their advantage. some people actually like inferior sound quality because they feel it's more "retro and 8bit" than the better sound qualities. (you'll find some people on youtube that like to lower the video quality all the way down to 240p because they just like the chiptunes that way)
even with the processing, it might be an advantage. having slower processing can help you keep your chiptunes straightforward and keep them from becoming a mess. this is good for a beginner.

Saskrotch is right. If hardstyle chip is your preference,  then a DMG or CGB are the options youre facing, then. The pocket can still play good chiptunes, though.
