=> TSC I see the same effect; power off then on = green monotone GFX, but wait a while everything OK. I think you'r right with you EPROM assumptions, could be a capacitive bus load diff between mask ROMs and Eproms. May be a bleed resistor across Vcc and Ground on the cart will help but not sure if that will help with the bus lines.
=> Neil, OK. This is an old console so wasn't quite sure if it was the hardware or what. Had to spend time messing with the dreaded connector ( will have to buy a new one soon), so it startled me; thought all the magic was draining out. You got me!! :0
Just love turning it on and letting it run in the back ground

It's Cool, Neil. fighting these problems are part of the fun. I'm not an uber NES console hacker, so messing with these hacks is fun learning. The easy route is an EMU on my PC
Whats got me interested is the diff between a 'real' MMU1 and PowerPak mapping. For that matter what's up between NEC MMU1 and Sharp MMU1 chips?
Anyways, Thanks Neil for doing the hard part, coding pure goodness for the world! Listening to SMMM wile sitting here!

Re: SuperMagic Music Maker ROM (30 replies, posted in Nintendo Consoles)
Just dug out my NES and set it up to test the SMMM cart I finished yesterday. YEA! IT WORKS!! Spent the afternoon learning/making noise )
Used a Tennis Cart, NES-NROM-128, a 27c256 & 2764. Take Note: I used sockets on both so they are a little taller then the top of the cart shell. Not much but it hangs up a little on the top part of the 'Cart loading frame'. not a biggie, but got to be a little careful sliding it in an out.
Aside from my console's gamey cart connector (had to tear it down and clean/tweak the pins) works like a champ, except an odd glitch. When I tap UP, some times the overdrive doesn't seem to work but the audio get very overdriven (may be the way it's suppose to) AND the video starts loosing sync and goes B/W. Tapping again (or is it DOWN) goes back to normal (well if you can call these beats "Normal"
All an all, great fun, THANKS! neilbalwin for your gr8 code and !RESPECT! na7; you da man.

>TSC Read your efforts here with great interest. not clear on how you fared with NTRQ, was it also MMC ver dependent? The Kid Ich cart has a Sharp MMC1A; so I'll try NTRQ with the stock open Golf MMC1B3, to confirm a TRUE neg, then plan to replace it with the KI MMC1A.

Re: Putting NTRQ & Pulsar & PR8 on a Famicom cart (Guide) (128 replies, posted in Nintendo Consoles)
just to doc :
Open Golf-
NES-SNROM-05 1987 'N' MMC1B3
CR2023; R1, 2 & 3; D 1&2; C8; installed. 'SL' jumper OPEN
PRG- 32 pin
Spot-
NES-SNROM-05 1987 'N' MMC1B2
*no Batt*. R1, 2 & 3; D 1 & 2; C8 empty. 'SL' jumper CLOSED
PRG-28 pin
Kid Icarus-
NES-SNROM-02 1987 'S' MMC1A
*no Batt* R1 installed, R2 & 3; D 1 & 2 Missing. No footprint for C8. Jumper bridge under D2 CLOSED
PRG-28pin
Just a thought, it occurred to me that the boot problems may be related to the backup batt. On the Golf cart, and I'm guessing others, the CR2032 is welded to the battery clips, so a weak batt can not be replaced. If it IS weak could it corrupt the ram during backup periods?

I reallllly want to try this. Got the Willem burner set up and some ebay carts enroute, but wanted to hear from peoples that got one or both working and what carts they used? NES carts that work: Zelds, Bard's Tale: Nen Open Golf not so much?
I got a Kid Icarus, SPOT & Nen Open Golf coming. Will have to add battery to SPOT I think, but no biggie.
Just wanted to round up the winning carts

"I've been considering routing MIDI to my NES via the USB CopyNES I have installed"
Thats an interesting idea, but along that same line 'that exp port project' (can't recall at the moment) seems like it should open up alot more; midi over ethernet maybe?
EDIT: ENIO is the Expo Port project, way cool!

I never got the Midines I ordered in '08, so be warned, Chris is very flaky! There are complaints all over the net about him. If you can find one on Ebay well go for it. But to me I don't want yo encourage that guy at all. I got off on a rant in another thread about him, he had posted about his plans for a 2.0. I didn't find the post till after 6 mo, so I don't know if he will ever see it, but I just saw RED seeing his words.
There is another project that's just starting to bear fruit, Chip Maestro. as well as NESserial that's a little more DIY.
Best of luck

I would jump into this line too!! Just stumbled on to this today, been a big fan of Little Scale/milkcrate for a long time. YEA on the Sega midi!

Re: DIY Covox like USB Soundcard/DAC (29 replies, posted in Other Hardware)
As you may know the Convox is a simple R2R DAC with parallel inputs.
What this means is there is a string of resisters with tap points along the series. Each bit from a parallel bus connects to one of the taps, so if the bus is driven with a Byte/Word value the resisters sum the "1"s for a output voltage, somewhere between 0 & 5V . More "1"s, the higher the sum voltage will be.
To use this DAC on USB (serial) you would need something like one of FDTI's chips and a latch to hold the current sample. In addition you need the driver softs to handle sending the samples out at a constant rate to reproduce the wave sound. not easy with USB (USB transfer rates depend on the mode) or use a uC to receive the samples in a FIFO and latch them on to the DAC.
All do-able but quickly becomes very complicated.

Re: Any good Atari 2600 trackers? (25 replies, posted in Software & Plug-ins)
I've been mess'n with A2600 for a while. There are a few points that limit the platform, CPU and memory. The sound system is very primitive, so with the limited resources a full on tracker cart is just 'not happenin'
Synthcart and/or Loopcart is about the best you will find for real time play, just up against the limits of the system.
On a real A2600 your best bet is the Synthcart and Highly Liquid's Midi interface (which is open sourced now for the DIYer out there). Do the sequencing on a PC or whatever linked to the A2600 for live play.
Much Fun, Yogi

Chris, DUDE, you are so full of sh!t! what a fukn!g @ hole!!! I am one of the many trusting idiots that trusted you to fulfill an order. after the first 6 months, I was pissed; after the first year I was consigned to being ripped off. BUT seeing your BS on this forum just rips open that scar. YEA RIGHT, you are just behind, 'but clearing out the back log' WHAT A LOAD; I ordered back in '09
how can you show your face, doesn't anyone around here care how much of a rip off your are?
ALL I can say to anyone wanting a midines:
DON'T TRUST THIS GUY, JUST A SCAM!
