Most of my modding problems involve those last two.

Would I rather be content or have a gameboy? Personally, I can't have one without the other.

That sounds like the awesomest job ever.
On the other hand, I wonder if people like Thetris ever get tired of gameboys due to their constant exposure to modding them...
Hope we get to see something happen on the keyboard at some point big_smile

Also, what is the gameboy micro thing in the upper right of the virtual boy pic? Not like any packaging I've ever seen.

I'm not claiming to be an expert on the subject, but I'm pretty sure all that it's saying is the amount of resistance the switches create. All wires in electronics generate at least a very small amount of resistance when they are used.

Basically, it's saying that using one of these switches will add 0.08 ohms of resistance to your circuit, which is almost nothing at all.

Installed backlight and magic eraser'd some glue off of the inside of the screen protector. Now I know why you should NEVER EVER DO THAT. Protector is ridiculously foggy now, so I need to replace it now more than I did before. I'll post what happens after I get a new screen from Kitsch, but it won't be until restocks of a few other products as well. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Just got a DMG in the mail from the magical land of eBay. It's fully functional, and I'm satisfied with all but one aspect of its condition: the previous owner seems to have glued the screen protector back into place with superglue. A small amount got onto the screen, and a very noticeable amount is on the plastic on the front of the case.

I'll be ordering a replacement screen online soon, but until it gets here, does anyone have any tips for removing the residue without damaging the plastic or gameboy logo?

My camera is being stupid right now, so here's the picture the auction used for it. More around the edges is noticeable in person.

I've been kicking around the idea of attempting to power a DMG with a 9v battery, as to free up space in the battery compartment for extra stuff. Problem is, I'm not sure how to go about stepping down the 9v to the normal 6v. Upon looking online for regulators, I found the 7806, a 6-volt regulator (which I honestly did not know existed, only had heard of the 7805). Would a 7806 do the trick for this, or should I use something else?

As long as you have at least a small amount of skill soldering (and almost no skill is required), doing your own mods is RIDICULOUSLY easy, and fun. I have done 2 DMGs, and neither of them have ever broken. Granted, I've never performed with either of them, but I have dropped both of them more times that I am proud of, or am willing to count. I was really nervous the first time I installed a backlight, but following Kitsch's tutorial, it went in very nicely. The biggest piece of advice I have is to go slowly. The first screen I did, I spent 45 minutes just to peel the foil off, to ensure that nothing would go wrong.

Also, doing your own mods is hella cheaper, which just adds to the list.

After several searches among forums and Google, I cannot find any information regarding whether or not anyone has ever attempted to hack an NES Miracle Piano to be used for chiptune. So far, I haven't found anything on the subject. Are there any hacks like this out there, or is the keyboard's functionality such that it is easier to just get Chip Maestro or something similar?

Any idea of the number of these screens you'll have to sell, kitsch? Basically, will this be like trying to buy a replacement case or like trying to buy a drag'n'derp cart?

No emoticon can accurately capture how wide my mouth just opened in awe.

Kitsch, you can count on my money being in your pocket sometime soon.

I have two mods for my DMG lined up at the moment: an LSDJ keyboard, and an arduinoboy. Initially, I planned to cut the link cable I got on eBay in half, then put one length of the cable into each device. However, upon getting the cable, I realized that the cables would be shorter than I'd like them to be. After milling around the internet for a while, I came across someone who showed their keyboard, which had a gameboy link cable port built into the keyboard, allowing for the cable to plug directly into the keyboard and DMG.

TL;DR: I'm wondering if any website sells gameboy link cable ports. I'm aware I could just cannibalize a 4-player adapter, but I wanna make sure there aren't any other options.

Thanks!

(also, my first topic! yay!)

Would an RCA video out be possible? I know that RCA and HDMI are two EXTREMELY different formats, and I somehow doubt that both will be available, especially when you're struggling to get just one of them to work. Just felt like asking, totally psyched for this!

Is there the possibility that there could be some sort of video-out capability on the new screens?
