Oh yeah, I don't like it because of any nostalgia or anything, the gameboy predates me by about 8 years.
I just like the sounds that people manage to get out of old consoles/hardware/whatever. It's that whole pushing everything to it's limit mentality that I like

The music is great, there's a massive variety, and everyone has their own way of doing things
The people, like the music, are from so many different backgrounds that it's crazy
The software guys who make it possible for people to make chip, are always involved, and always listen to people about what they could improve next etc
on a side note, I can shitpost without any hassle, so that's a bonus in some respects

Reaper for recording, audacity for cutting the extra bit off of the beginning and end of the recording. Reaper may be great at recording, but I can't be bothered to work out how to do anything else on it.

Can't believe I missed this post. I'd be interested, but I tend to have trouble working with other people when it comes to music, and I'm also pretty new to the genre. I think I'm probably just going to do this one solo, and maybe for the next stockwave album, I'll try working with another stockwave artist.
