This is so damn cool. Kitsch, if you buy it, you *have* to use all your soviet gear to record at least one jam and post it up.

PORTLAND SHOW!! So stoked.

I'm in the Portland, OR, USA area and am just searching for info. if anyone knows of places to look around there for old stuff like that

Sorry, just saw this. I'm from PDX and used to volunteer often at Free Geek. Their little tech shop is often selling cool retro bits 'n pieces, though in the past few years they've transitioned towards mostly older (but not very interesting) PCs running Ubuntu that they sell in the sub-$200 range. I still drop by occasionally to see if anything particularly interesting is kickin' around. Anyway, if you're looking for a genuine "we sell really really old electronics" place, they are it - their business is recycling and repurposing ancient tech, and it's a mostly volunteer-run nonprofit, so there's really no motive for them to charge you anything more than utterly dirt-cheap prices.

*edit* upon looking @ their site...jackpot! I was more right than I thought I was.

pretty sure it's a shoop because they both have them (in b4 'some of the pixels')

Hey Nick,

Upon viewing this for the umpteenth time I was struck by the background of your LSDJ setup and how it actually changed from day to nighttime. What are you running this on? The only thing I could think of was running it in bgb with some sort of fancy background graphic/gif/what have you. Very intrigued.

Any thoughts on my potential screen placement?

Super sweet, except for one (probably minor) thing - if you're gonna make some use of that funky XY joystick controller above your screen, your hand will cover the screen when you use it.

The author officially supports running BGB in Wine on x86 processors. Raspberry Pi is using an ARM CPU, however. You could pester the author to port it to RPi, but I have a feeling he won't do it, at the very least not in time for your project.

Fair enough. Not a catastrophe; I can still use a laptop for the project. Thanks for clarifying, Nitro.

Does anyone have experience running BGB thru Wine on Linux? A little googling suggests that at least some older versions of BGB might work okay with it (or did in Ubuntu, and so might in Raspbian). I was wondering about the feasibility of running BGB on a Raspberry Pi.

Yes, I'm sure there are comparable linux-friendly emulation options, but
1. BGB rox my sox
2. I actually need BGB because it has that neat built-in thing that displays a graphic around your screen area to make it look like a 'real' boy. It's for a project, I promise smile

Still $50? I might be. Where're you at? If that $50 includes shipping I'll probably be foolish enough to do it after this next paycheck tongue
