I think it's a bit pedantic to say that you "need to know about visuals to write about them". That's a load of poppycock. So only musicians are allowed to make comments about music??

No no no, you misunderstood me. What I meant was that his knowledge of music might interfere with how he perceives the possible quality of his writing about the visuals (because the two are so closely knit in this case).

If you can't come up with any words, probably the screens didn't grab your attention enough for you to say something about them (putting the whole 'they are integral' part to question, at least from your perspective).

I don't think inability to express oneself equals lack of emotional response, I think the problem is probably more rooted in perspective. He's a musician, so writing about the aural side of things allows him to use his first hand insight, something he doesn't have for visuals, and that contrast probably leads to a feeling that the way he can describe the visual is inadequate in comparison. Asking for visualists to help with the nomenclature seems reasonable to me. smile

+1 Or maybe allow you to link submissions, which would be useful if you upload a new revision of the song.

'Music responses' is on the planned feature list, I guess that covers it if you just reply with the revision to your own track.

A suggestion for the music upload page: Allow two upload slots per submission, one for mp3 and one for alternative formats (mod/it/nsf/bin/wtf). This way a user can play the mp3 render in the player and still access the source.

The MI theme was etched on Adlib into my brain. I still much prefer the OPL versions of games of that era, even if they had native MT32 support. Nice vid, thanks!

Yo Carl, have a good one! Teleportation is the one discovery I'd really want to see right now.

I want Opera's security, configurability and functionality with FF's plugin flexibility and Chrome's Java engine.

The only possibly problematic thing is with "cloud computing" which to me seems like a quantum leap backwards into the days of dumb terminals and mainframes. Which is cool for all the retrocomputing nerds, except it's not retro and whenever the "cloud" goes down everyone will be screwed.

That's very true. If you bother to read through the EULA that comes with a google account, you'll notice they reserve the right to suspend your account, period. They don't have to give a reason, and while you can make a plea, they don't have to even answer it.

That's very fun if you consider all the stuff google has it's fingers in. If you use their apps, your online docs are lost. So is your mail, if you don't use a mail client. If you use picasa, you can't manage your pictures anymore. Or your Blogger blog. Or your Youtube videos.

Then again, a web 2.0 murder of that kind could actually be something healthy wink

New track alert for bookmarked artists working fine and is awesome! Thanks!

See above! As long as companies, governments and public services aren't forced into upgrading, they won't (too expensive, our 1992 apps won't work anymore, you don't want to browse at work anyways). And every web developer has to consider that, especially those in business. Plus, every exploitable system is a potential spam zombie, which is affecting everyone.

Good question, but then, Opera is always ignored. By everyone. I guess it still has a reputation as being clumsy and geeky? It's not true in the slightest, but obviously people still work with false assumptions if they're using IE6! It's probably the same problem Linux suffers from.

BitPop is right. Companies are the most sluggish things when it comes to software updates, we still have customers with freaking NT4 servers. Even if they want to update, company policy is often in the way. Upgrading is expensive.

As to Google making that formal proclamation, it does carry some weight, if only for the massive influence Google has. They probably want to kick IE6 out for pushing their online application services (which was why they put Chrome out in the first place), which is something MS doesn't want because it's threatening them in the long run.
