Depends on what you're in the mood for. Makin' beats? Start with drum and bass. Makin' sweet melodies/arps? start there.
It doesn't really matter. you just need to start, the rest takes care of itself.
Edit*: The non-literal "you".... not you you. *shrug* general advice/my thing.
Last time a scandinavian offered me "a particularly awesome candy" I ended up with a fucking dundersalt in my mouth. That was 4 years ago and I still can't taste or smell anything.
HAHAHA! xD
Aaw man, people always hate the salmiak candy... ( ._.)
Reminds me of a particularly awesome candy we got here in Sweden (and other places I'm sure http://tinyurl.com/kuumqfv ). Really cool, looks great!
Wow this is looking really really really cool.
Gosh, so much mouthwatering stuff here! *drool*
I guess the Gameboy is just like a real Instrument, that you have to practise on.
*giggle* I'm having a bit of a laugh with this one I mean no harm, though.
Yeah, the track is a bit wonky, but pretty cool. I mean it has a rhythm, it's just slow paced and chill about it.
It works, just keep at it!
Nope. you need your gut, a pair of functioning ears and motivation.
It helps, of course, to know the technical stuff behind it all, but I really don't think it's necessary in the sense that you can't write anything worthwhile if you don't have an education. Also one progresses a lot of that (the technical stuff) gets picked up along the way, even if it is subconscious.
also most importantly the d'n'd has a drawing of a cool lookin' dude on the label.
I *KNEW* it! I am not the only one who bought it because of the cool dude!
But more seriously, yeah go for the EMS, dude.
I have two, gone for 3 years now, still doing fine. Admittingly I don't use them 24/7 but as has been mentioned already, if you back your stuff up the batterylife isn't that big a deal. The battery life on the game boy should be far more concerning. At least it is for me, I've lost songs once or twice because the Game Boy jolted and the batteries shifted or the batteries ran out on me.
And hey, in case you wake up one day and you figure it's not for you, you won't have spent 100 bucks on a cartridge (not wishing to imply anything here, but that happens sometimes, people change.)
Yeah man I'm hype. But wanna see it land somewhere I usually buy stuff from before I commit to it.
A worthy thing to ponder upon. 2014 I made about 170-180 (not counting my game boy strict stuff) WIPs but a mere handful of finished tracks that are polished up enough so I could stand for the result so to say.
There's a reason though, I went through my phase of composing songs every day and just flinging them out at random people as soon as I could. The past year and this year I'm doing a deeper game, trying to figure out what makes me tick on a deeper level and just focusing on becoming a better composer.
(I'm on my third years into this, so that's about as much as I can account for really.)
My two cents on the thing and something I'm lucky to be able to function with.
Motivation is your ultimate key to any success. You gotta want it. If you do, you're all good. Anything else works, but takes more time, patience and effort. That's it though really, you just have to want it enough~
Best of luck.
Edit: Well that, and doing it a whole bunch obviously. Didn't think that has to be said, but I'll say it anyway.
You people are such downers...
^ Mmmmhm.
did you take too much lsdj?
