i mean a whole new replacement kit for the front half, yes.  the back half won't be touched in this go-round.  just need to connect the ribbon cable from the back to front.  the front otherwise is reworked a lot.  nothing remains from the front.

there are a lot of features in this project i'd rather keep under wraps for right now, sorry if i'm too cryptic sometimes....  regardless, its not too far off now, at all.  finishing up some of the coding/design in the next couple weeks for a last part of this, the LCD is starting production this week (i believe, need to double check).

its really not too far off.  just such a huge project i can't say for sure, anything could happen....  !!!yikes!!!

This is why we need newly produced GB PCB's.

I believe Kitsch is working on that. It was on his thread awhile back...

nearly done.  its time to start thinking about the backlight color for the first run even.  i'm sort of stuck on green unless someone can change my mind...

ohhhhhh.   right, i see now.

you'd see them a little, although through the clear screen protector as long as there isn't a gap i don't think it'd be a problem at all.  the issue if you took this approach would be to make sure the shape didn't come up in multiple parts because the precut places.  or else place it on the gameboy really carefully so it aligns right and you don't get gaps.

thats why there are 8 on the sheet though, you can mess up a bit and not worry too much.  they are also symmetrically placed if you want to attempt a printing template.

you can print on it, and cut it however you like.  the 8 screen-shaped stickers will be there either way.

but, if you are using the sheet for a screen cover design, the pre-cut shapes are exactly that shape, so why would you need to cut it out when you can just peel it off?

sorry, i don't understand what you mean really...

are you familiar with the Avery brand of printable labels/stickers?  you can get return address labels, rounds labels, all sorts of things.  these are the same concept as that, except the shape is for where the graphics on a screen cover would normally be.  there is a precut LED hole and rectangular part where the LCD screen is seen.

you don't need to cut anything, you peel the stickers off just like a sheet of stickers you'd buy at any store.  the shapes are pre-cut, even the hole for the LED.

there are 8 screen shaped stickers per sheet.  for experimenting, if you mess up, smear, whatever...

but yes, the whole sheet material is a sticker.  you can cut any part of the sheet and have a back to peel off with adhesive on the sheet.

yea i saw those but i dont have really the right printer for those and i prefer not to draw it on the sticker.

what type of printer do you have?  is the size not correct?  (i'm just wondering about what the compatibility issues may be)

you don't *have* to print them on photo quality, but with that much black the ink won't sit right, it will likely pool a tiny bit.  and, i don't have matte sheets of the stickers in stock yet.  but, if the ink pools you can sort it out a lot with a sharpie, you'd at least have a fine edged printed layout to work with this way.

haha.  this is funny.  i've done work towards a similar internal thing too.  maybe i'll post a screenshot just because.

wasn't someone porting this project to teensy a little while ago?

thanks for looking!

here is the ROM for Ongaku Tukoolu Kanadeelu

and here is a screenshot:

moogle charm database is so wonderful

i took your lead and tested this out on a whoooole bunch of buttons.  trying to edit photos and i'll get results posted asap.

really great work!  thanks so much for trying this out and posting your results, its interesting.

going to a hair supply store (sally's is where i went, its a chain) worked out well because i could buy the developer in bulk, and smaller quantities of the dye.  and having a bunch of spare buttons didn't hurt either...

the results were a bit strange and patternless from what i can tell.  i tried different varieties of dye, as well as different solvents.

the picture showing it cut open is a good idea, i'll try to go back and do this and take pics.

they look fine, seem to have all the connections for LEFT, RIGHT, and GROUND.  thats all it takes for stereo.

thinking about it from the perspective of the plug which goes into these jacks:
LEFT = the tip of the plug
RIGHT = the shaft/middle of the plug
GROUND = the 'common', its the section farthest from the tip

just by looking at this jack you should be able to sort out which is which.

something worth noting:  a general thing to look for in panel-mount jacks (which is the style of this part), is whether the thickness of the panel (the gameboy case) is too big for the length of the threading on the jack.  you may not be able to screw the nut onto the jack's threads at all (or far enough) and hold it to the case, if the case is too thick.  you can solve the issue if this is the situation, but when buying them fresh its just a good thing to check for.  saves having to 'make' it work.

yes.  ui owls are great things.

a better picture of the art!

yeah, they aren't too rare if you have japan connections or access somehow.  not easy to find outside of that market,

pretty sure they were available to japanese nintendo power subscribers.  which i'm sure number quite high...  i've never heard of a # limitation on these carts (limited edition or whatever)

i thought i'd give you all dibs on these before i send out the newsletter, i'm already low in some sizes hmm

new t-shirt!  50/50 blend, very soft, tan color shirt.

pixels by ui

^ just noticed this image is a little distorted, must not be scaling correctly.  the 'pixels' are square on the shirt.

dammit, totally forgot to mention this in the above newsletter....

i've added some options to the 'custom dmg case' for packages with matching buttons/screens at a discount:
