the plastic buttons wouldn't cause this, the silicon is the part which makes the electrical connection, the buttons themselves are within a very small margin of the originals if not exact. if they were too thick, there would be an issue with getting the tactile feeling from the silicon pads in general, but a connection issue (electrical) when they are pressed would be a silicon issue. or else dirty contacts.
it could perhaps be the backlights though, if there is created pressure. i've had this issue myself a long time ago with a thicker model, the pressure caused the buttons to be wonky...
try reconnecting the ribbon cable inside, it may not be making good contact and you could be having button issues from this.
for real!
thanks man!
using a new artist for us, wesleyoung. his paintjobs are really nice, big attention to detail. the silver/blue fade is pretty incredible, i was going to keep it myself but i decided to have him paint one of the new dmg cases for me instead
it'd be awesome if it were removable...
maybe install a tiny bolt in one end, and embed a nut in the other, or something like that...
then it could be a joystick, OR a dpad, depending on what would work best
i'd like to try this as well (there is a GB clone that has a pseudo-joystick, but it doesn't work so great)
looks nice
he was preparing some files for me to host, so that the design could get out to people and everyone could build it...
(but, like you mentioned, he's been awol for a while now)
a lot going on today
first, the RGBbb (vb) documentation is available
next, here are the new items in the shop:
red/yellow/orange custom case $35
custom 'water drop' faceplate $15
custom blue/silver console (backlight/prosound) $90
custom red/yellow/orange console (backlight/prosound) $90
thanks!
i hope they pick up some of the features from the app and put them into a physical watch.
like world time and the millisecond counter. its a pretty looking app. i actually haven't tried it, but touchable nooka seems interesting to me (i've just gotten used to reading time like that though, in bar format)
I'm a big Nooka fan,
and in the spirit of this thread, thought i'd share the newsletter they just sent:
or put two swivle points on the sides of the screen so you could tilt it, like a mirror. you'd need to reinforce your solder joint but it should be very manageable. put two stopper in there so you can only tilt it so much. that might be a workaround...

also, i'm really proud to announce an artist whose custom console cases will be appearing in the shop, wesleyoung. his paint jobs are a very nice quality, i've adopted one for myself. we'll have more cases and full consoles in the shop in the future, here's the first (gameboy color):

lastly here's a custom reverse-painted and stenciled gameboy color case by capcomposer:

that does it for this newsletter! until next time, keep chipping!

thanks!
All the 32K Pixelh8 roms seem to be working just fine! Who woulda thunk it?
thanks so much for letting us know, i appreciate it!
it does in the bottom one (as well as my version of it, which is yellow with a different name, but same guts it seems)
i ran a test on the sound of the yellow knock-off i've got, the results are posted in the thread which discusses the fake gameboy... the wav channel was funky, everything else passed though... (you can hear this in track playback on the machine, the wav playback is just wrong...)
not sure if they work in the top one. there were several of this type released, the GB Boy being one. i *think* they are all compatible, but i'll need to check... i can remember testing it, but the memory isn't real enough so is probably fake in my mind... (happens)
glad to know others geek out on this stuff too!
got the first one, and a different version of the second.
eh, you can't really find them new. the first one was more readily available a couple years back but not its even difficult to find. the second one is rarer, the version i have is functionally the same, and will play gameboy carts like that one too. there is a thread on here about it actually, with some pics and whatnot.
i've got a lot of clones and knock-offs tbh, its one of my big interests. i'll post about them sometime only a few are compatible with gameboy carts, most use proprietary cartridges and were made to emulate the shape of various consoles mainly.
there are a lot of 'falling block' type games in gameboy shaped cases, but not quite proper clones...
yeah, would love to see an internal shot step-by-step, i'm curious what the insides look like during the process just for kicks. wiring is always my least favorite thing of any project, i admire peoples wiring as odd as it sounds...
i've thought about doing a eurorack (or MOTM or modcan) arduinoboy unit for a while, just no time. indeed this is badass, i'm so glad someone did this with such quality.
the rack looks great.
you should contact nbscloset.com and see if they could help you out with a laser etched front panel for your kits, or just for the future ones, would look sick... also, for kits, get in touch for bulk pricing on some of the parts, some of them we could help with for the kits...
