!!!!!!!

i have an idea!!!!

a big thing i noticed about the 1006A batch of carts is that C3 (the big orangish one, just to be technical) is being left off the board.  I contacted Melody about this, and she said indeed it was intentional.  i was assuming it was a decoupling cap, and my worry as it was mistakenly left out of assembly.

removing C3 shouldn't be hard if you've got a soldering iron handy...

with that being said, i never actually asked what C3 was for, and haven't bothered to follow the traces to ask.  1006A works, C3 is gone, i guess that cap was an issue in the design.

and, since we are on the issue of caps...

possibly smile

i'm not sure if you've tried this, but put something in the second banks, and see if it helps.  switching to them, when there is nothing to load, may be part of the issue in why things are seemingly becoming stuck after having accessed the empty banks.

its worth a shot.

nanovoice demo, muddyGB, GB electric drum...  all good apps to try which won't mess with your sav at all...

also, can you check something on the cartridge for me, as it might help...

on the back, bottom-right, of the cartridge (melted into the plastic) is a date code.  something like 1005, 1006A, 0912, whatever...

what is the date code?  the latest PCB revision (which is what the date codes partially reflect, the letter is for more than one batch in the same revision) is 1006A, which are functioning beautifully.  it must be a model EMS is comfortable with as well, because they've been using it the last 200 we got, and usually they cycle to a new one quicker than this...

the date code may reveal a lot.

as well as putting a ROM in bank 2 of both carts.

then again, they may just be faulty.  which would be very odd if they are 1006A, not totally weird for some of the 2009 dates, but still odd you'd get two with the same issue (apparently).

you should contact the person from whence they come, and as long as they are in good business terms with EMS, they should be able to work something out (EMS products are guaranteed by EMS, and the buyer (your cartridge seller) can work out an exchange even if your warranty with them personally may be up.  if they are willing, that is.  EMS, after all, wants to keep their wholesale purchasers happy and the person you bought it from can make a personal repair request on your behalf with no issue).

@ nitro: i'll send you a cart to fool around with, my pleasure.  i'll be sending you a little something soon anyways (surprise!).

i've played with those a bunch.  i like them.  mouser doesn't have 50k though, didn't check the other places.

alps makes a really good two axis pot as well, but i can't seem to find them...  they may not be made anymore.  i haven't thought to order any for years now...  they were green and steel, looked good.

but, those two axis pots above are nice as well.

they make nice caps for them too, but i'm not sure part #.  don't have the catalog with me, and i hate skimming through their site tongue

PS -- if you want, and you don't already know how to do this, i can make you the part in an Eagle CAD library if you are laying out a PCB.  i don't mind, and it'd be a good one to have anyways.  let me know...

correct me if i'm wrong...

but it looks like a mono effect.  to maintain stereo you'd need two of these, or a different IC with L-input and R-input (or whatever).  and L- and R-output

unless i missed something...  its probable

reading datasheets.  thats all it seems like i do now.

supplemented with a constant stream of both good and bad sci-fi shows/movies playing in the background to help temper my adhd.

i love sci-fi, and being distracted.

and the internet.  usually.

there has been a bunch sent out, and the offer still stands.

bump for free exposure!!!

just get your shipping person to not put 'video game part' or something on the customs label, and instead 'electronics part'.

its not a lie doing that.  just not as detailed as they may like.

they won't be checking for GB stuff anyways.  they don't care.  they don't make money of antiquated technology.  don't even have support or repair those consoles now, or even the newer GBs which you think may still get Nintendo service/support.

wouldn't be surprised if the gameboy line just fizzles out for good in the future (with no ressurection), in favor of smart devices like the modern DS which they've already pretty much adopted instead of the GB line.

although, a gameboy ressurection would be interesting.  especially if they'd consider this scene.  but,

i doubt they'd really care.  flash carts have been scetchy for a long time, and selling them for  modern supported platforms is a bit of a risk within the US (its why most modern flash cart people are in Canada).

they DO certainly care about DS carts, and i remember not long ago (3-4 years) GBA flashcarts caused issues with some sellers in the US.  DS flashcarts are already a tricky business.  Not surprised at all about this ruling.

actually, its a little odd that the UK didn't already protect Nintendo's copyright in a way that this ruling was even needed.  I understand that this ruling explicity mentioned Nintendo...

but, their copyright was already protected under UK law, for sure.  the UK is a member of the berne convention after all, so a nintendo copyright held in any of the berne union nations wold be respected in the others.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berne_Conv … stic_Works (for the curious)

nintendo operates from a copyright here in the US, and in Japan, so it must already have been respected by all other nations part of that union.  even if i can't speak personally about whether or not Nintendo products in the UK are granted a UK license,

but, it doesn't really matter.  they are protected irregardless, because the UK is already bound by international law.

i think this is old policy, just reiterated and upheld in this most recent ruling.

no worries, really.  they won't care.

nintendo wants to stop the sale of R4, acekard, and the edge cards and those things.  not flash carts for the GB, and i bet they could care less about the GBA at this point (ill distinguish it from the other GBs).  they won't spend the money to take anyone to court on something they no longer make money off of.

but, they most certainly will with DS flash carts.  from time to time you hear of someone being shut down and their inventory seized.

which is why we don't deal with them.  not worth it to earn the wrath of Nintendo.

NL 2.3 and NL 1.5 will no longer be available outside of the nanoloop website once current stock is sold out as whatever distributor has them.

I'm sure oliver will make appropriate announcements when he feels the time is right.

we were just alerted to this in an e-mail this morning.

there are changes being made which effect the ability of these to be sold be other distributors for a while.

sorry hmm  i'm bummed as well.

new product just added.  check out first post...

yes, you are right.

!!!  (in retrospect i shouldn't dig up past news.  just wanted to make a meep from a (still) baffled corner).  i suppose that should be the end of it...

but, yes.  its firmly established at this point.  admitted to even (although that may have been deleted in the The Great Banning (and subsequent Exodus) last year/early this year).

but, MrKirk hope you sell your cart!

nice sticker wink
