I always enjoy kubbi's music, can't believe there isn't a release thread for this yet!

Download

check it out, great release.

(from the bandcamp page)

Circuithead is the 4th full length album written and produced by Kubbi. It was written between May 2012 and November 2012. The album contains 9 tracks and the two bonus tracks "Machinery" and "Flicker".

Circuithead is an odyssey through hard hitting grooves, catchy melodies and relaxing atmospheres. It is based on traditional chiptune music infused with modern synthesizers, samples and progressive elements.

another good trick for cleaning cases:  run them through a dishwasher cycle (top rack).

unless your washer has a heating thing on the top rack too, then probably not.

it gets them squeaky.

changing the buttons really isn't hard.  its just a matter of taking out the screws and lifting the PCB out of the case to swap them out.  and putting it back together the same way.....

but, with the mods installed it might be tricky.  particularly with the backlight.  i'm not sure how he installs them, if he's taping the panel in place or whatever...  the way that mod installs in a pocket you might find its sort of loose and not solidly stationed like in a dmg.

so, be real considerate when removing the PCB from the case...  there might be a loose backlight in there...

the only worry about the prosound mod is when you take everything apart don't yank the wires.  i can't think of anything else with that...

easy mod, usually, might be tricky with the mods installed.  just keep that in mind

^ i think they were put on a shirt,

right?  didn't someone do this?  (i totally forget)

if not, yeah...  they should be...

thanks so much for all this info....  troubleshooting you will help others, and all that...

keep us posted about the solution?  i'd personally like to know...

and, good luck!  i'm out of ideas now smile

k.  thanks!  button failure indicates a busted CPU sometimes, so that's good wink

i'm really thinking its a polarization film oversight.  unless the potentiometer for the contrast is broken...

does the contrast knob make any difference when you turn it?  i mean...  i know the contrast doesn't correct itself doing that, but does the screen change at all when you do this?

particularly, does the screen seem to (as a whole) make a shift from being one color to the other?  (a normal<->inverted shift is what I mean).  if it does, and you still see no graphics really on the screen, i'm laying money the polarization film on top of the backlight panel is missing...

no, fresh batteries are perfect....

Timbob has a good point though...  might be a missing polarization film.

just to make sure...  is the power LED coming on?

and, can you see the screen enough to play a game real quick and make sure all the buttons are working too?

are you using fresh batteries in your console?

(seems like thats the culprit in way too many scenarios lately)

Don't tighten down all the way, there should be a slight gap around these dials.  If the case is resting on them you'll reduce the free movement.

It's a very slight gap.  The moving part shouldn't be rubbing though.  Enough of a gap to prevent that.

the whole 'adding bass' thing is a myth.  its never done this...  not sure where thats coming from, tbh...  (like, there isn't a disproportionate increase on the lower end...)

and, it will be quieter too, yes.  you've bypassed the internal amplifier.  thats all the prosound mod is, a bypass of the amp IC.  you loose the boost for headphones but bypass the circuitry where the background noise is introduced to the signal.

(in a couple weeks i'll have a product out that will address all the cons/concerns you've got about the mod)

oh, and about the speaker.  it will keep functioning normally unless you change it.  if you simply don't want it to work anymore, remove it.

it won't shut off when you stick a plug into the prosound jack, if thats what you're after.  you can add a switch and turn it on/off manually.  the original headphone jack has an internal switch (its an uncommon jack type) which turns the speaker on/off depending on if something is plugged in to that jack.
