so it's not that he doesn't think it's a good chiptune

Just curious, is it "chiptune" because he says 8-bit a few times? 'Cause I'm pretty sure this has nothing to do with chip musics. And I'm not trying to get into the ever-present "Waht is chiptune even?" conversation. I'm just saying. This is about as chiptune as tibetan throat singing.

it's chiptune because apparently all electronic music is chiptune these days.

/this coming from a guy that plays DS-10 and calls it chiptune.

seriously though I can't speak for OP. and we will probably never know because I'm pretty sure he's avoiding this thread.

Also, it wasn't the OP who wrote the tune, rather his channel that uploaded it. From what I've gathered.
I guess he just didn't want to be associated with this stuff; he realised the error of his ways

he still has it uploaded on Youtube (OP just posts various chiptunes on Youtube). so it's not that he doesn't think it's a good chiptune, he just doesn't want this hurting his reputation on chipmusic.org

which i think is silly

OP brought about a lively discussion about this song and I still respect OP.

But this makes me think, maybe there's a place for the sonic equivalent of visual data moshing? Compressing things terribly just for the joy of the artifacts? Discuss.

There's a place for everything, but even then this would be the opposite of a good example.

Actually Note! I think this is a perfect example of what you are describing:

Guys, this is the tune:

@pixls: I can hear when mastering is bad and this is one of the worst examples I've heard. Also, I believe that mastering has a big effect on how listeners perceive music, even when they don't understand mastering at all, but I'm sure some people might disagree.

so i just want to understand exactly why everyone hates this song so much. I mean, I find it to be pretty annoying but it seems like run of the mill stuff to me, and I guess I'm a little confused as to why this elicits such a negative response. Is it:

1. because it's cheesy
2. because it's hardstyle
3. because it's not harmonic
4. because the mastering is bad
5. because the singing is bad

just wondering.

I didn't care for the video but I liked the song a lot!

Great post dude.  I think the primary thing that people in the scene can do to benefit everyone is simply stay in touch at this point.  Everyone has different goals and different skills, so if we just keep trying to maintain an active community then that will help centralisation.  This forum is a great place to start!

I just launched Chiptune Rush yesterday - http://www.chiptunerush.com - the idea behind it is to collate a batch of non-free releases from the chip scene in one place, then put some effort into marketing them as a small commercial enterprise.  So far, I have to say it's proving a bit difficult to get my own fans interested in the music of others, but I'm going to keep trying and keep working to build this up as I think it's a worthwhile goal.

have you pursued press? especially online press from music & gaming sites. you could even promote it based on the innovative side of it; it's a boutique online store dedicated to a specific type of music, and with all the interest right now for chipmusic, I'm sure people would at least be interested in checking it out. there's a whole world of people out there beyond your fanbase.

also everyone that has content in your store should be promoting it too smile
