btw, isn't chipmusic inherently not cool and not trendy, simply cause it's nerdy? or is it ironically cool now?

who the fuck is tony thai?

Yeah FFS, I don't know who tony thai or peeR are. This isn't the first time I've seen a post like this... a while back someone said something similar about "hanny" and I was like who the hell is hanny? Marketing is better than not marketing, IMO.

uhh...hold on let me think......uhh...im going to say.......yes ...yes final answer!

FFS... I'm going to say two things.

1. Soundcloud.

2. Every record label's "contact" page.

I have a folder with about 50 different record labels' contact forms / email addresses / Soundcloud dropboxes which I have gathered, over the course of a few months, with just some Google searching and Myspace / Soundcloud hopping. It's not hard. From the sounds of it, however, you shouldn't be thinking about record labels for another 6 months or so.

How?

How do you send something to a record label? Is that really your question?

Are there any tips you guys can give me as to how i can better market myself and get my music heard?

Once you have something that is actually good, and I mean, not like, YOU think it's good, but more like, you show it to other people and they are all really impressed by it, and they tell you, "this is really good, you should send this to a record label or something," then do that, but also, send it to a bunch of relevant music blogs and try to get them to write something about you.

I think the problem is that people tend to confuse genres and templates. I blame the house/techno scene and their genre micro-management; just because your synth stabs are in a slightly different position doesn't make it a new fucking genre.
Anyways, the same thing happened to breakcore, and a lot of other genres (Akira's spot on with D&B). Initially there's plenty of experimentation, because nobody has any idea where this all goes. Then one track gets popular, copied by everyone, and it goes downwards from there. I really liked the early Akira Kiteshi stuff (Pinball/Noglitch), but he's becoming more and more generic. What's worse is that the template is expected by the audience as well. Don't sound like vsnares? It's not breakcore! Don't sound like Aphex? It's not IDM! Don't sound like (ick) Rusko? It's not sick mate.

It's not just that. It's that once a certain song becomes popular, there's a thousand tutorials on the web that tell you how to recreate that same sound, step by step. It's the same as "my first LSDJ." Part of the problem is that everyone is focused on making stuff that is "commercial friendly" and easy to spin, so you have to follow all these rules about measures, buildups, drops, breakdowns, etc. That's when a genre becomes a template and if you do anything that is slightly outside the box, you get weird looks and none of the record labels will want it.

Obviously you can replace "dubstep" with any other genre that's been around for a while, I see the same thing right now with house music.

Damn, you guys are cynical. I've heard some pretty diverse dubstep n the past few years. You do have to look for it tho. It's not all wubwubwubwub. Anyhow I like that ??? Guy. Someone posted a good one here a while ago too...Anyone like ikonica? She's does some good fake bit, some not so good.

I really like Monster! Monster!, I actually bought the physical copy of his latest single, and I don't do that often. That being said, dubstep is not my cup of tea and I do not listen to it regularly.

Once you've heard one wub, you've heard them all.

("wub" can be replaced with "chiptune," btw)

A lot of my friends are coming out for this... apparently everyone I know suddenly loves chiptunes.
