If money is a concern, just go for the ems. Mine's never caused me any trouble.
In terms of everyday usage, you won't notice a difference in usability between the two, especially if you're just going to be using it with lsdj. The price difference only becomes apparent when you connect it up to a computer to transfer saves, and in reality, flashing the ems isn't as awkward as some people make it out to be.

all the stuff about drivers is easy to get sorted regardless of OS

Can confirm this is *a lot* of fun!! Been looking for something like this for a while. Tried a few other things, but this is another level! Not necessarily a tool, more of a toy in my opinion, but I'm sure somebody is bound to prove me wrong and use it in a track 
Should be even better without the annoying whining noise being caused by the low batteries on my gb. Why are there never any batteries in the cupboard when you need them ._.

Just so you know, the EMS cart works absolutely fine with a Mac. I've never had trouble using this https://lacklustre.net/projects/ems-flasher/, although there may be reasons unbeknown to me that this is rarely mentioned when people ask about flashing an EMS on Mac OS.

Not too sure what the management's like, but you could get in touch with the guys at The Haunt in Brighton. Been to a couple of gigs there. Pretty nice place, especially for the intimacy you get from a small venue. Really easy to hop on a train from London.
