I *will* throw my voice in here and say that while the Arduino(boy) embedded idea is great, what is even better is the fact that it is possible to have a Teensy 2.0 piggyback on the Arduinoboy's MIDI connections to offer USB MIDI via https://www.pjrc.com/teensy/td_libs_MIDI.html this project AS WELL as DIN MIDI. wink

This would allow you to have ALL the features of the Arduinoboy carry over through USB in one unit while overcoming the shortfalls of the Teensyboy being a slightly incomplete port of the Arduinoboy code (I think it's due to a lack of a certain kind of MIDI library for the Teensy 2.0 iirc).

Shitbird and Boaconstructor go hard with nanoloop. Boa played his material at BRKfest and it blew everyone's minds.

I have a buddy in the MD scene. He should have an account there or a backup. Will ask!

Not a problem. Wish Kitsch and I had discovered this earlier at Moogfest <_< had to disable one of the demo DMGs we had since neither of us thought to investigate MIDI panic (B + A) when one of the units freaked out.

I suspect it has something to do with the fact that the EPROM and nanoloop one cart don't really allocate any SRAM storage for mGB to place its presets. Try holding B then pressing A when the screen with icons/waveforms shows up. On carts lacking SRAM that I have, mGB likes to panic and output some garbage icons because it wants to load saved presets, but can't.

Nevermind. Found a statement from krikzz on his forums that the Everdrive GB can use at most 64KB for SRAM saves, the rest of the memory is used for OS stuff. This means no LSDJ probably ever sad

On the bright side, I can buy a derp!

Matt - I'll hit you up for a derp unless news of Everdrive+LSDJ working is on the horizon.

Can't do anything that lacks a USB port or is a EMS 64 MB cart. Shoot me offers in my inbox smile

https://soundcloud.com/treyfrey/tres-fr … nes-teaser heard these two tracks live at BRKfest. Mindblowing exploitation of simple sample playback and timbre in LSDJ smile

Is there any chance we may see an update of this that supports the new kitsch cart which will utilise the 5th channel? :3

This is super super cool smile

Don't let the sticker shock from the listing scare you, take a look at some of the crazy stuff here. The wiring is insane. It looks like somehow the DJ Hero Turntable is used as a giant potentiometer for a variable clock mod, while the Gameboy-built-into-housing looks like it is a "master" unit of some sort. The serial port on the CGB and parallel port on the DMG probably carried clock + link cable connections so that they could easily be sync'd to the turntable controller and thus have their clock changes be synchronized in a 1:2 ratio (DMG:CGB). This means that the user could easily and accurately beatmatch without using LSDJ's build in "Tap A on tempo" function, or having to rely on a standard link cable. May be handy to make the units functional in an actual DJ setup. The aesthetics lend themselves well to DJ controllerism and vinyl in a DJing context.

Despite the price being insane, it looks like this mod is a bit old in age since the DMG features a 2-LED (nonfinite?) backlight and the deck-embedded DMG has a 3-LED light, so this doesn't look like it's a freshly-flipped deal. What's also really striking is the crossfader in the embedded unit, I suspect it is connected to a passive mixer for mixing between two sources. The screen is from a Gameboy Pocket, and given the age of this mod, it might have been one of the first times a Pocket screen transplant was ever done.

Let me know what you think, it's a pretty unusual mod with great intentions smile

ALSO I have messaged the seller, asking him to make the Youtube video non-private, as it is currently private but included in the description as if it were a public link. Hopefully we'll see this thing be properly unveiled and explained, it deserves it!

I'm pretty sure that this has something to do with how the Everdrive GB flushes and pulls data from SRAM and the microSD card. I believe this was even discussed here once upon a time as a potential hurdle for SD-based cartridges.

Wait so now I can transfer my LSDJ wubs and samples to mGB completely?

Dang.

I don't see this as being more effective than a blog post with an embedded Youtube video at the bottom showing one of the artist's/band's best performances.

Also, it seems like that while you may be a bit familiar with some of the sounds and scenes, there would be a ton of music for you to consider when trying to choose the best of the nearest-hanging fruit. Not to mention you'd be competing a bit with other music blogs.

This idea isn't bad, but it would require incredible amounts of background knowledge and research to make informed decisions.
