Why is this "caving in" something to worry about? Are you afraid that the music won't stand on its own? Consider the person A and B example egr posted.

you make some good points sir. i guess my mindset is just that chip music really doesnt have anything to do with how the music is created. just how its is delivered. when i think about the soundchips associated withh chipmusic theres a list in my head of the ones that "count", but i suppose i dont even really have enough technical know-how to discern this on my own. dont get me wrong, i could  care less about the debate in a sense of what music im going to listen to, but if people are giving chip any kind of definition, no matter how grey or broad it is, theres gonna be stuff thats left out even if we enjoy it the same way. if the discussion is about moving past caring what its made with then hell yeah, i thought that happened already, but i think there should still be a distinction of some sort. maybe i didnt understand what was being asked.

people are making a lot of interesting points.
i used to argue with an ex-girlfriend that  ds-10 music was technically not chip but is generally accepted by the chip community because it is nintendo handheld music.  i believe she still refers to it as 8-bit or chip and it still gets accepted as such.
on the other side artist i enjoy like slugabed can incorporate a lot of chip sounding instruments without feeling the need to identify with them and worrying more about the genre theyre portraying.
also thought it was interesting to find out dj zincs super sharp shooter was written with octamed, i dont believe anyone ever called it chip, just some dope d'n'b.

chip music is music produced by a sound chip. i didnt know it had to be more complicated than that. everyhing else is chip "influenced". which is just as cool in my book. if the op's question is should we move on, like not worry about the definition anymore, then no. thats just caving in to people that want their music to be accepted as chip when it is actually chip influenced. for the most part its just as enjoyable but denying theres a difference is silly. i like this thread smile

im not sure how safe it was to do, but once me and a friend got the idea to rip open a game cartridge, plug it in without the case, and then start touching points on the games board with a wire. we got some really cool glitches without harming the snes in any way.

sounds legit to me. would probably stop all the " whats the comp? there is none? okay no thanks."

i cant be mad at people that call their bro stuff  "dubstep",  theyre drum and bass "jungle", and their uk hardcore "happy hardcore". it takes too much energy for a losing battle. but as far as the op's video - i didnt care for it. no real reason.

i couldnt help but notice your post saying you "got into chiptunes"  something like three or four days ago. do you mean got into modding stuff or like actually learned about chip. cause modding looks fun and all but if you discovered lsdj a couple days ago i might start crackin on learning how to use it before going buckwild with the mods. i dont mean that in a negative way. we have plenty of people here that are nuts about pimping gameboys. just saying theres a difference. good luck to you sir.

sry. my comment looks negative in retrospect. i don t have a knowledge of using gba but when i searched the first results i saw were for m4g, furious advance tracker, and paragon 5. with the first two being the only ones ive ever seen mentioned.
