i used to play a lot of dance dance revolution ( and i was pretty damn good before i started smoking) and i honestly believe this prepped me for music in a lot of ways. when i started mixing beatmatching came easy because of it. then when i turned to trying out production my mixing helped me already have an understanding of how music works. but with that said i would google some music theory sites and learn keyboard. i think most people can agree with that.

yeah it should work but i dont believe the sound emulation will be that great. im always trying to convince people to jailbreak their idevices though. it opens up so much that you couldnt do before. im still twiddling my thumbs waiting for my ios6 jailbreak for my pad.
but dont forget either youve still got nanoloop and sunvox which would run on your touch and are awesome for making da chip.

im not sure how you would sync the tfc files for a sega. i know they have playback available on flashcarts like the everdrive but im not sure if that can be manipulated anyway.

but this is on the front page
http://chipmusic.org/forums/topic/9700/ … ck-needed/
if im understanding correctly (which im ususally not but maybe) then this project might open up a lot of cheap and feasible options.

aww i see. id be lying if i said i knew much about how you would go about it but im assuming you would need to find a way to play some simple waveforms on whatever reason uses to generate synths. or like monkeymook said you could go straight sample based.  i thought a lot of people used fruityloops and ableton for that kind of stuff. ive always kinda liked sunvox and renoise better cause of the tracker interface but that might turn you off.

maybe i misunderstood. yeah lots of people do. i dont know anything specific about reason though. im sure it will run all the chip vst's available.

edit: i personally use sunvox. no vst's. but some sweet synth generators that can be used for chip like sounds. its more of a tracker than a full fledged daw though i think.
