This generation looks pretty cool, I want whichever one has that weird deer thing on the front

I just realized this never got posted here, I guess because I didn't know this place existed whenever I released it. So here it is - my first album in all its sloppy unmastered lo-fi glory, newly returned from the netherworld of nonavailability in the wake of my old website's unsolved disappearance.

TRIVIA: the sine wave samples I used on this album were mistakenly labelled as square waves the entire time I was making it.

Thanks guys! Glad there's no lynch mob so far.

@SketchMan3 - if you like that sound, just wait for my next folk album.

That's amazing. I can't believe I've never heard of that game... it's gotta be by some of the same people as did Trip World, right?

(NES) Metroid
(NES) Super Mario 3
(NES) any Mega Man game
(SNES) Earthbound
(SNES) Super Metroid
(GB) the first Super Mario Land
(GB) Pokemon R/B/Y/G/S

I know some of these have been lauded to death, but seriously, they're all great soundtracks.

This is the first full-length album of my folk music project. It's not exactly chiptune-related (though I did use a tracker for the drums in the few places they appear!), so if this sort of thing isn't allowed here, I invite the powers that be to delete it. But I thought someone here might be into acoustic music with shouting and tape hiss and wow and flutter and whatnot, so here it is; let me know what you think.

The battles in Earthbound maybe.

On a serious note, I don't know of/know anything. Maybe you could get some cool visuals from different games with a Game Genie if you knew what you were doing...

In my limited experience, I'd say it's more like "write something TO fit" than "write something, hope it fits."  This involves motifs, as people have mentioned, but also involves identifying particular tempos, rhythms, instruments, etc. that evoke the appropriate feelings. Often it can be helpful to look at things other people have done to achieve a similar effect, then imitate or differ to taste. A little bit of homage here and there can also be fun.

As far as developer input, it's nice to get track-by-track descriptions of what they want, but short of that it's good to at least have some guidance as to what music THEY think is effective - sample songs, etc. This is super-obvious, but when you're working for a client, it's important to keep their taste in mind as well as your own - I mean, they did hire you, but it is ultimately their project.

But soundtracking is very much something I'm learning, as well, so I'm looking forward to what people will say in this thread.

I missed this on first read-through but it might be the best sentence

Glowsticks. Just glowsticks.

Please no one come to this

Also, my Toshiba laptop is pleased as punch to be called "vintage."

The release date is certainly suspicious. Incidentally, that's a good move on Nintendo's part, as I think there's a sizable crowd who are interested in Pokemon but not handheld games in general.

I kinda like it. I want to see it in the flesh before I make any final calls, but it might be a perfect Pokemon Y machine.

The etching on the body looks really cool. I don't really like it on the screen though; at least in these pictures, it kind of just looks like the screen got scratched up.

But yeah, I'd spring for an etched case... if I made Game Boy music.

Are there any other online music communities you guys are active on, chip music related or otherwise? I look around from time to time but generally just get discouraged for one reason or another, but I figure there must be some good ones somewhere.
