BTW - you can add per-track notes on Bandcamp, if you didn't know.

This is great - I love it when people do chip music that's off the beaten path, I love it when people record to tape, and I love the simple evocative beauty of these tracks. "Mist Town" is just killer, as simple as it is.

Since you asked for criticism, I think there's room for improvement in terms of pacing. The EP is frontloaded with very short (and great) tracks, and I think that generates certain expectations in the listener, which makes it harder to get into the tracks in the middle that are several times longer. I'm not really sure that the long tracks merit being as long as they are, as well (though I dig the bizarre sounds in "E-Waste"). Bottom line is, it drags a bit.

I'd be curious to see per-track notes, since you seem to have used some unusual equipment and/or techniques.

I had great results using Sire Press; they'll do full-color cases or screenprinted stuff, and they're good about staying in touch. They were the cheapest I was able to find for the exact job I wanted, but "YMMV" as the kids say. The main perk for me was that they do full-color discs at no extra cost, which doesn't sound like something you need.

duplication.ca is another option. I've not used them for printing but I've bought raw materials from them before. They seem to be very versatile and pretty inexpensive (keep in mind the prices are all in CAD).

your cover art is sweet, by the way.

this is a good track. I love that detuned high lead and the chord progression and melody are real pretty.

Usually, i start with a chord progression / rhythm that i want to use and not a melody. Melodies are easy* to improvise on the spot when they have something good to push against. I also will often go for a long walk and play around with melodies in my head (like rymdkraft, i use my phone to record them sometimes). Sometimes I use a guitar or something to help me write, as well.

Thanks a bunch guys! I'm still pretty new to both of these programs so it's nice to hear I'm not doing it totally wrong!

or maybe you *are* doing it totally wrong and that's what's so good about it

that... cover art?... has got me swooning. The music seems pretty cool too, though it's not as metal as I was expecting

you have an ear for great nasty noises and melodies that are dissonant in the right ways. I like how you mix in some conventional drum samples in places. I like it all but agree with others that Caves is something special.

If there's anything that could use improvement I'd say it's the cover art, which doesn't do justice to the wildness of the music.

CDs are available now, and I think they turned out pretty. There are some pictures here if you'd like to see: https://harrisonlemke.bandcamp.com/albu … -purgatory

Thank you!

@Flit - it doesn't seem appropriate to me to treat this stuff & Brother Android stuff as the same project. Two fundamentally different aesthetics, purposes, etc. Maybe some people could handle the dissonance but I can't.

@Kura - i wouldn't wish a summer like the one these songs are about on anybody. Glad you dig "Moving Blues" as it's one of my favorites.

I just released an album. It looks like this:

This is not chip music, but there's a Game Boy cameo in the first song and some NES drums in the last one, and tracker-based drums throughout, so... that's something? As with my last folk album, I invite site mods to delete this thread if it does not belong.

But yeah. it's got guitar playing! And tape saturation! And single coil pickup hum! And singing! And analog delay slathered all over everything! If you like fuzzy folk / garage / blues / tape hiss music, you might like it. Give it a listen here: https://harrisonlemke.bandcamp.com/albu … -purgatory

CDs are available to buy now, though they won't be shipping out til the end of the month since the printing process is still underway.
