On the other thread about vgm, Delek (author of deflemask) thinks it shouldn't be very difficult to convert from vgm to gbs.

http://chipmusic.org/forums/topic/6645/ … he-forums/
(I'm a noob so I can't bump old threads, but I can at least create new ones)

MP3 is still the format which reaches the greatest audience in terms of support (native where possible or otherwise Flash).

Talking about greatest audience, I noticed you can't play musics from chipmusic.org when you're on an android smartphone and tablet, and I guess it's the same on iphone/ipad because they no support the flash player used on this website. I think it could be relevant to switch to an html5 player such as this one: http://pupunzi.open-lab.com/mb-jquery-c … dioplayer/ (it can also use a flash player when it's not supported)

And being able to import flac or ogg tunes would be great too (even if they are converted to mp3 after)

Something LIKE an NSF, that is to say, a song file independent of any tracker that can be played on hardware.

ah sorry, I didn't see the "like" part.

There is such a thing http://ocremix.org/info/GBS_Format_Specification but I think a .gb file which autoplay would be enough (deflemask does this, and it can also export to gbs)

For players of gbs:

I made a tune with deflemask and it replays well with gbsplay.

Some years ago was released a stripped down version of lsdj which could only replay music, but it wasn't updated so it's probably not safe to use.

On this thread it seems it would be possible to convert lsdj songs to the vgm format: http://chipmusic.org/forums/topic/14932 … gbs-files/

Thanks for the noisechannel and thasauce links. And also for the your "ur heart" tips wink

You're right, there are some gameboy comps on Battle of the Bits. I don't think it's possible to get .nsf from LSDJ (gameboy and nes use different chips and nsf targets 2a03)

You can try for instance to plug a game cartridge and see if the gameboy is still getting hot...

It's not really a sequencer, but you can produce (random) sounds on GB with http://blog.gg8.se/wordpress/2009/03/23 … r-gameboy/

MUSICTECH's website is no longer working as before. http://www.pixelh8.co.uk/chiptune-software/ is redirecting to http://www.creativecomputingclub.com/. Do you know some alternative download places? (edit: I found one: http://gbdev.gg8.se/files/musictools/PixelH8/)

FURIOUS ADVANCE TRACKER's website is down. You can download it from https://github.com/cbrouillard/furiousadvancetracker

Hello,

on http://demozoo.org/ I was looking for some gameboy / lsdj competitions but I can't find that many, probably old computers are more expected in those parties. Are you aware of some other announcement boards where we could find more chiptune related song competitions?

I'd prefer him to compose new tunes for the C64 / SID rather than making fakebit from old hits sad

it's a very good album. I don't absolutely love everything, but most of the tracks got my favor. It's original and doesn't sound like techno / party / fun / dance music, it's moody and yet has entertaining melodies. It sounds more like introspective music, and I appreciate this (it's what I'm trying to achieve with my own music).
I live the cover, but not the fonts / handwritten letters

Bright Screen: sounds like a "romantic" / sad part of an old game. Well done. One of my fav.
Milk Chocolate Buttons: not really my cup of tea/chocolate
Contagion: it's rather ok even if it's not among my favorites.
Water Dream: nice tune
Turned Sour: nice but should be longer / more developed
Sharp Gloop: I love the sound. Sounds like an old game too.  One of my fav. I like the change of tonality at 0:35. Reminds me of some Kjell Norboe's stuff. What did you use for composing it (and also the other tunes)? It sounds a bit like SID for this one. For the others maybe lsdj and / or famitracker?
Jipon: sounds nice
Severity: wonderful, should have been longer /  more developed
Bye: I prefer the NES version.

I don't think you can easily use a single led for getting a frontlight, I've tried myself soldering a led on some wire to a 5V port on the GB, and when it's too close to the screen the led doesn't give any useful light (I think you need a special screen available in frontlight kits for achieving this). So I ended up buying this kind of product instead:

it's far from being perfect, but at least it helps in dim places. (I was pissed off to discover the link port on DMG is bigger than the one on GBC so you can't use this everywhere)

it's a pity not to keep at least one, I'm sure you'll manage to find time to go back to music one day!

I'd be interested, do you know the price for shipping to France?

I'm not very good for saying something encouraging in such moment, especially when I experienced similar feelings when my mother died a few years ago, but be assured we support you Yerzmyey. Condoleances for you and your family.

Come back soon anyway, we need your music and presence!

It's totally amazing... it's so intense and mesmerising... I can't stop watching this. Thank you for sharing it. It's a pity he lost his hearing, he is so skilled and talented...

I think John GBC is working well, the sound is good. I can't believe all those 0% accuracy on the other test, I think it's bullshit. I'll give retroarch a test anyway (I prefer free and open source software, even if it's quite big in size).

Using the touchscreen is rather ok. On John GBC you can configure the layout and screen so you can increase the button size.

You can also search for "gamepad bluetooth" on ebay, there are cheap and tiny ones like this: http://www.ebay.fr/itm/Bluetooth-Contro … 4636433359
I don't think it's really useful for lsdj, but for gameboy games it's much much better!

The real machine is "better" and more authentic, but using lsdj on smartphone is super great too: you get backlight, it's lighter, smaller and you always have it with you. And there is no extra noise and "huuum" when you're working on it.

note: I've tested retroarch, but I couldn't load my lsdj .sav file so it's not usable for me. And the layout is not very convenient.
