Just for the record I am nearing 28, and I am a Sega Genesis musician. That's a completely different kind of what the hell is wrong with you .

When I copy pasted this response to a friend of mine on skype it turned into tongue. And so it now reads "and want girls to send nude pics via game boy camera tongue." Then he said "I first read "2 girls in the chip" as "2 girls 1 Chip". I think this is pretty good evidence to support that chip tune dating probably wouldn't work ha ha.

I think chip music is a good way to make friends but I think dating takes something deeper as other have said. I always thought it would be kind of cool to meet a girl, collaborate on something and perhaps slowly find that you have other things in common as well and maybe go from there. However, I've only met 2 girls in the chip community and both of them while extremely cool people seem to be into other girls. I have a sneaking suspicion that because the male to female ratio of chip musicians is so low that females probably feel that if they put themselves out there they'd get like tons of PM's from hormonal teenage boys that bought a gameboy, got into LSDJ, and want girls to send nude pics via game boy camera .
If I am going to take a serious approach to such a topic I would say put the love of music first and collaborate with as many people as you can in order to learn and grow as a musician. You will certainly make friends, and a small percentage of them will be female, and maybe just maybe one of them will be straight and if everything goes perfect you will have a weird chip tune girlfriend that lives too far away. So how about it ladies, want to learn VGM Music Maker and make beautiful Sega Genesis music together? lolol

Re: What do you like about chip music? (70 replies, posted in General Discussion)
I'd say for me it does have to do with nostalgia some too, but for me I really like it because there is a possibility of pushing new sounds out of vintage hardware. It makes me feel that the retro systems still have a lot of life in them and plenty of untapped potential . There are so many interesting game consoles with unique sounds, and as others have said plenty of variation in how people use them too. I grew up listening to a lot of these classic game soundtracks but when you consider what they were able to do with such limited space it's remarkable. To make music that's still good no mater how many times you die on that bastard of a hard level really is quite a feat in my eyes. So, when I make chip music it feels like in a small way I might be honoring what those guys were doing back then while putting my own original spin on it. So it's a cool mixture of classic sounds and new discovery at the same time. Think of it like nostalgia with a twist .
Oh, and I too love how cool like 99 percent of chip musicians are. I've learned more from them, and had more awesome collaborations with chip musicians than I ever had with any other hobby and so I enjoy the hell out of it. Plus, to get a nice comment from a fellow chip artist means the world to me because who better understands the effort you put into chip music than a fellow musician. So yeah, the nostalgia, the discovery, the small file size that makes collaborations a breeze, and the general common bond and mutual respect we have for each other really makes it a joy for me. You just can't beat it .

Re: any other chip musicians with synesthesia? (100 replies, posted in General Discussion)
Yes, mine is quite specific as well.
C is Red
C# is brown
D is like a lighter red-ish pink
D# is dark blue
E is light blue
F is light Green
F# is Dark Green
G is yellow
G# is Pinkish Purple
A is Pink
A# is Dark Purple
B is Orange
Lower Octaves look like those colors through a tinted window and the lower the octave the darker the tint until a note is so low it is black. Higher Octaves have a shine or glow to them until the note is so high that it's pure white. When the notes are out of tune the hue changes and the colors just look off. Like washed out or, when the contrast/color on a TV is wrong. This helps me to tell you what note something is just by listening to it and I have to see the color first and then remember what letter that color/note is. Also, if there is a chord it's like boxes of those colors washed in whatever note the chord is in. Like C major is C,E,G. A box of Red, Light Blue, and Yellow, tinted in a red-ish glow. Tones like sawtooth and square wav can change the shape of the boxes to more angular or smooth and rounded depending on the tone generated. Strangely, square waves feel smooth and circular to me where as sawtooth feels more angular like a triangle or diamond . White noise gives it a texture of sand, and drums in general lack color. Black blocks for Deep kicks, Grey blocks for mid pitched snares, and white blocks and rectangles for hi-hats and a weird whitish grey ripple effect for crash cymbals. Tom drums can be light or dark depending on the pitch and have a circular shape like a square wave.
I think that covers most of it but if someone has more questions about what certain things look like, I can try to answer it. Interesting topic .

Topic: Upcoming Web Radio FM-Possible/Jredd Interview (3 replies, posted in Past Events)
So yeah, I just finished up a skype interview for a web radio show. I'm pretty excited. Had to get up early to do it but yeah. Basically, I guess I'm well known enough as a chip artist to be considered for a web show interview now? How about that eh ? So it'll air Tuesday. He also wants me to send him some tracks he can play during it so...man I've made a lot of stuff and I am trying to narrow it down. Any suggestions? . http://wuml.org/?page_id=6 It'll be playing here on Tuesday from 4-6 PM his time. I think he's on the east coast...so wherever you guys are at you can figure that out. If you miss it I'll be able to put it up later for people to listen to as well so don't fret too much. Man, I'm pretty excited!
