i guess there's a way to always boot to the command line on W98, but don't quote me on that.

I quote you because it's true! smile
If you install Win98 and DOS5 you can always rely on DOS5 case Win98  goes to shit. This is how I used to have my machine.

Please use Twitter. Get a blog. Or something. But not here.

Dual boot, man. You can stil get into DOS if Windows fails.
But WHY should Win98 fail? tongue

Sadness comes to me when reading this thread.

The best advice is to relax. Your first gig might probably come with a bunch of problems and you probably will be nervous.
Take every cable you will need, do not rely on the venue to give you a thing. If you are using battery powered devices, make sure your batteries are fresh. If you plug to mains, take every PSU and a power strip. This way you assure your sound will come out and you can perform.

Just try to have a good time, if you have a good time, people have a good time.

I think you should keep both DOS and Windows in its hard drive, it will make your life MUCH easier.

You can modify the AY "wiring" to convert the thing into a Spectrum as far as I remember.
But in all, this is better to be missed. I had one sitting in my closet for years and I never used it. Ended up selling it. I have a +3 anyway

Interesting! The PSU I'm using is actually some very sketchy DIY thing the previous owner of my Amiga made. It may very well be the problem! I'll look into this, and if it is the problem, then I guess I'll just have the replacement caps ready for the future when they really do fail.

Is "sketchy": actually a PC PSU? If so, that'd be much better than an Amiga one.
I don't think this would cause MISSING AUDIO at all. You should replace the caps nonetheless.

OK great, so I will just need a monitor with RCA video input.
Thanks!

But well ... I lost the "portable" advantage of the sx64.

No, he means for using the audio output of that port.
As I said, case you didn't read, even if you plug this cable, your internal monitor WILL STILL WORK.

I am not 100% sure if that specific cable you show works, because the SX-64's video pot is 8-pin like the C128. I have a C-128 cable. Also, the cable you show, is a Y/C/Audio cable for a 1084 or similar Chroma/Luma capable monitor. Still, it will give you the audio output smile

The chiptune community here is actually pretty small.  None (few) of those people were chiptune fans (well, I guess they are now).  They were all just random people who didn't know a thing about what we were doing, they just dug the music.

Who cares? You got the best crowd really. Much better if they don't know anything or have anything to do with "the community". MUCH better. As you say, you know that if they enjoyed it is because they dug teh music or experience. It's a very honest feedback!

In my list too, actually the plan is to replace the whole back platter.

PS1 screen

VERY BAD plan, it actually doesn't fit properly, as you can see, I tried tongue
I recommend you another screen. The round motherboard fucks shit up. Unless you are in for a major, MAJOR motherboard cut and rewiring of the cut lines.... sheesh, not worth the effort if you can buy an aptly shaped (ie square) 5" screen.

Just use the c64/128 - 5 or 9 pin audio/video output cable for a RCA line...search ebay smile

That too, you can use that cable, the internal video will not be disabled if you plug this cable to it. And it has an audio plug. This is the 'safe", non-modding way.
