oh i guess this would help - i use an m-audio oxygen (pic is a slightly newer model than mine, but same dif)

it has all sortsa knobs and stuff i usually never use haha. would this work, nordloef? not sure how the knobs even work to be honest lol, but theyre there. it also has a channel selector that i would think could be used to go back and forth between say square 1 and 2, which i could program beforehand to sound to my liking. that combined with the fact that i can duty cycle with the mod wheel would be sufficient. . i don't ever need (so far) more than two instrument sounds per song.
@rushcoil, i am trying to avoid having to buy anything extra, like a trition or akai. esp cuz tritons are expensive. getting a cheap netbook was my fallback like you said. but id still rather not spend any extra money than i need to. plus using soley NES's - significantly cooler haha.

i need a new live setup. laptop is dieing. dont feel like buying a new one. so can someone please tell me if this is feasible...
first off, my laptop served two purposes (live) : 1) to actually play my songs, 2) to power my midi keyboard with 8 bit sounds so i can play along. rather than buy a new laptop just to power the midi keyboard, can i have midiness open and have different instruments for each song for live playing? for example, say for song A i want a 50% square song with a quick decay. halfway thru the song i need to change to a 25% with sustain.... can midiness do that? i don't actually need midiness to play my songs (for now) i would have a second nes for that... unless, can midines run my song and let me play along simultaneously? Thanks!

thanks guys. very helpful. im leanin towards the dmg, because im most concerned with the sound quality. unless i can find maybe a gbp or gbc prosound modded. but i'd need to get the dmg backlit...anyone know of a good place or person that does that?
and RE VBA: is there another emulator i should use instead to record from emulator?

so i've been experimenting with lsdj and now that ive got the hang of it i must say i enjoy it. i've been using my psp and emulators just to experiment for now and see if i like it before i wasted my money. now that i'm looking to purchase a gameboy and cart, my questions is which gameboy model should i go with? it seems the weapon of choice is the dmg. from what i understand the sound quality is best on the original model? what about say a gbc with a pro sound mod? does pro sound improve the sound quality on the dmg?
also on a slightly unrelated topic. when i take my songs off my psp and run them on in visual boy advance to record, some of my instruments sound screwed up - mainly my pulse kick sounds phased out and my wav channel vol is incredibly low. is this normal? Thanks!

bucky, i think you're right. the last thing we want is to finally have a show there and then it bombs and they never want us back lol. its def something to work towards though. maybe we should build up a little more of a following at some other steady venues then talk to em.

yea first uni chip shows would be rad haha. r5 would be a good place to start. here's their contact info (straight from their last email blast) :

i have no problem initiating contact, but it'd probably be better if someone with more experience in the scene did. any volunteers?

you guys ever hear of r5 productions? maybe someone should talk to them. i hear about pretty much every small to medium size indie show in philly through them. kung fu necktie, johnny brendas, starland ballroom, first uny churh, the barbary and the like are where most of their shows are. i think they are solely promoters, though. You'd probably have to talk to each individual owner of each place. but they would be a good way to get the word out, and may have some good connections. Or who knows maybe they are looking for some opening acts. most places are gonna probably want $$ though. i dunno how you guys feel about that, but i like free shows anyways. just a thought that popped into my head.
