If you really want to split hairs about the terms "hi fidelity" and "genre," go nuts; but it seems petty to me.

I'm not splitting hairs for the sake of it. It genuinely interests me. If there is a stylistic, compositional or tonal link (beyond the obvious instrument selections and limitations) between all chipmusic then I find that fascinating.

I feel like there could well be a sub conscious link and sometimes I feel that association is present when listening to different genres presented in a chiptune medium but I can never put my finger on it.

If someone else wants to share their opinions on it then I'm all ears. I don't want people to think I'm posting to dis.

I didn't even find it to be unreasonable.  Some people seem to want chipmusic.org to become the new 8bc.  Can't we stop fighting stupid things?

That wasn't directed at you dude wink

Both the demoscene and chip scene have their own distinct "sound" that goes deeper than just the tools they use.  For this reason I, and many others, consider them to be distinct entities in terms of musical genre. At least in some cases.

HOLY SHIT! An intelligent conversation appears!

Ok, so I'm interested now. What would you say are these distinct sounds? I think a lot of music produced in the demoscene sounds exactly like the genre the artist has set out to write in (prog rock is a good example) with a different instrument set.

I'm keen to hear what you consider to be these unique distinctions as I believe this is getting closer to the core of the arguement.

I never said there was anything I took offense to. I just said it wasn't for me.

For the record Chiptune is not a genre it's a medium. It's like calling orchestral music a genre. It's not, it's just a means by which music is made with a set of instruments.

I completely understand that it could have been a very brutal edit. You don't need to defend yourself as I realise this is not your work and that you are just the subject matter.

oh come on..

This just swung between vague and inaccurate. Not my cup of tea.

People : If you are going to be interviewed for the love of God, do your homework!

Tom, I think that is the best shirt you own. Amaze. Sounded like a good crowd too.

Holy shit! That is fucking sexy.

I second Dan. It's damn good. DAMN good.

This show was the turning point for you Derris-Kharlan. You went from being a talented producer trying to play gigs to a polished and professional live performer. So glad it was recorded.

Dude... Using the excuse that you are a noob will only fly for so long. Do some research, read some tutes, take an active interest. People will just dismiss you as lazy if you can't help yourself. I just posted you a very good tutorial written by one of the most influential and expert artists in our medium. If you don't understand something in the tute such as terms then start googling. How do you think 'the greats' got to where they are now? They didn't wait for answers, they went out of their way to find them for themselves.

Chip music isn't some secret that can be unlocked. It's all just basic synthesis with a few interesting qwerks thrown in that are platform specific.

Do yourself a favor and shift your mentality from pasive sponge to someone who is proactivly inquisitive with the capacity to answer your own questions. You'll get more out of the experience (and life in general) if you learn how to find the answers to your own questions rather than begging to be spoon fed.
