not that expensive really starting at 300 quid. doesnt a kaoss pad cost 150 anyway ? this isnt something anyone could do - its not like bending a sk1 - thats fairly easy - you have to really know what you're doing to fuck with something like a kaoss pad id have thought. besides retards on ebay are buying broken analog synths for hundreds of pounds, and not even good ones, yesterday i saw a broken ass moog, literally fucked, glue and tape all over it, missing keys, fucked sound etc - that thing sold for 400 quid. so there's plently of peops with money to burn it seems ! excellent job on this OP.

vinyl or tapes with free downloads. cd's are really totally point;ess in this day and age. at best someone might play it in their car. mostly it gets ripped and lobbed on a shelf. A cd doesnt feel special to me personally. even a fancy one. its just the same as digital really, you can skip tracks blah blah. i like tape and vinyl because its more 'real' - i dont know how to describe it. but i put it on and it lives as a whole you know. I cant just press a remote and skip bits instantly. these formats encourage me to put on an album and listen to it in its entirety like it was intended, CD's im always too quick to skip tracks and rape ones i like til im bored of them haha.

its insane that people buy gameboys for over 100 bucks in 2013 ! Us geeks did well at reviving these things from scrap yards ! I thought old synths were expensive haha I paid the same price there abouts for a jp8000. I'm not a fan of flash dmg's normally but the yellow one is really nice. i like it nice and simple in yellow and black - its dope.

how come no one commented 'just smoke a spliff and go to town'

slow tempos. delays. reverbs. i dont think its gonna sound nice and ambient-esque without post processing really. Because the DMG sound is kind of to raw. But there are some songs by Failtron or whatever his name is that have that epic spacey shoe gaze vibe done perfectly.  Id definately suggest recording some stuff and then playing about with processing the sounds after with either software (cheaper) or hardware effects. But i know some people want to keep shit really pure which is cool. but for me, i dont think people should be so afraid of post processing their shit. Can be awesome and adds a whole new creative element to stuff. Nothing better than a recording to tape, soaked in reverb and delay and slowed down to a crawl : )

i always had a problem trying to do this plugging direct from my korg midi keyboard to the arduinoboy. But once i do it from the korg to me soundcard to arduinooy it works fine. which is okay because im generally using it with ableton anyhow.

this is a pretty standard dj transformer transaction so far then. if it makes you feel better - you're not the first....happens to the best of us. that guy is a total prick.

keyboard has too many stuck buttons. I can't be arsed to fix the typo's. but im not really as dumb as that reads. - honest

well there's not much of a difference in the chip side to any other sort of electronic music, in regards to quality
Thing is nowadays, its pretty easy with an internet to read a bit of shit, download some sort of DAW or buy a gameboy, makes some shitty songs real quick, upload them that week, release your first album the following month. So of course this readiness of utilities to make music with is going to mean alot mor rushed, amateur-ish music of low standard is gonna be uploaded.
But for me, its pretty easy to spot the difference between someone who is releasing music because they are truely into making music, and have spent time making it and people that like the 'idea' of being a musician and have there logo's and facbook pages, soundclouds, bandcamps all up and running before theyve really made anything even remotely worth sharing.
But you know alot(most) is free to stream, download, it pretty easy for me to check something out and no inaq few seconds if its gonna be utter shit or not. i mean this in the sense of if its some random notes in lsdj with crappy drums and its all mixed like arse - then i stop and pretty much blacklist their name in my mind. thats why i always stress to people to not be so eager and chuck every wip and crap sketch of a song on the internet - because it gives the impression that you dont take it seriously and im not gonna listen to it seriously. Its deifferent when there are established people throwing up a few wip's and demos because i know even a wip of one of those cats has had 50 times more time invested in it than some dude thats made a record in one week. its all about quality control for me.
A  bit more on topic - its like all music - there are labels / people i can count on to release stuff tht isnt shit. Pause, Inpuj, 8bitpeople, Ubiktune, Kittenrock - iknow anything i get from those places is worthy of a listen. its not gonna be amateurish crap and its gonna have had some time invested in its creation, so im gonna invest time in listening to it. Not saying everything they put out is my cup of tea and i love it - but its not total wank that's wasting my time nad bandwidth either.
So in direct answer - yes alot of chipmusic is of low quality and really shit. but it is with most genres. from metal to drum n bass to witch house. Once you get better at spotting the songs that reak of 'ive had a gameboy for 18hrs' and ignoring them - the world becomes a better place haha

damn you bumping people. for a sec there i thought it was a new record. then i saw the 2010 and...........: (

also id like to add - its normal to have downtime and times of un-creativity.

I have this too pretty often. I have so much on my mind, get busy in 'real-life' and i desperately want to make stuff, and i try and i cant make anything worth continuing. At times like that i just take a step back, do something else. Build some electronics, watch movies, and most important i listen to alot of music. Often my own stuff, and then one day boom. I make a song i really like and i churn out many songs in the coming weeks/months.

I think its pretty normal as a musician to have times of frustration and failure.

Also i notice in your post you said you were preparing covers etc. i know many people like doing this, but for me personally, and my advice is that its not particularly helpful. Much better as Temp said to just experiment and not worry about shit. Once you find your angle of where you want to approach music from and the vibe you want, you'll find your own 'sound'. And its then much easier to keep focused on that and think of ways to improve and expand on what you're doing.

make something small everyday.
i do it without thinking. get home, turn on computer, dont turn on wi-fi. make a cup of tea, have a small joint, and i make something. anything. work on an old song ive had new inspiration for. make just a weird loop. but i do this everyday for atleast an hour. then i waste my life on the internet and tv shows like everyone else. if i make something cool that swallows me in - then i work on it for a few hours. spend the next day listening back. decide with a fresh head if its shit or if i should continue.
but none of this is a CHORE. if you dont naturally want to do it then maybe you dont have a real passion for it. no one will nag you to make music because you are not richard d james or robert smith and dont have a following.
first and foremost you should make music because you enjoy it, -  me i make music because i need to. if i have a weekend with no time to sit down and make something, or i make nothing decent - then i deem it a shit weekend. you cant force that shit.,
